I recommend listening to the last.fm station: http://www.last.fm/tag/doom%20jazz

  Quote
Doom jazz is a form of music that combines the slow tempos, and sense of despair of doom metal with jazz style and sensibility. The music usually conveys an aura of pessimistic introspection, and many of the artists incorporate dark ambient influences into their music.

It's a great genre. Almost as good as the jazz-metal that Meshuggah play.

There's a really awesome duo in Melbourne called Agonhymn, who actually released an album called Doom Jazz:

Their guitarist is amazing, he plays ridiculous jazz chords through distortion and octave pedals and it sounds BEAUTIFUL

Ah yeah, I love me some good doomjazz Bohren is fucking great... haven't heard of the first group you posted but I'll have to look into them.

In recent years The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble has also risen up there in the ranks of Bohren, IMO...

Heroin And Your Veins I discovered last summer while looking for more of this kinda stuff... His album Nausea is some great proper doomjazz, very dark film noire feel to it. The name of the group apparently comes from an old informative pamphlet the guy saw once.

yep, I love me some Bohren! but I think I lost touch around the time of Geisterfaust, when they became too slow for their own good (imo), Sunset Mission and Black Earth are ace though

  • 11 months later...

So yeah, everyone loves Bohren und der Club of Gore (did you know it's not refering to bloody gore and it's actually a mining reference?) They're pretty much the kingpins of the genre

But what other doom jazz or dark jazz bands are there? The only ones I can think of are The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble and Heroin In Your Veins (which if you haven't heard and dig this sound you totally should I posted them earlier.. dont be put off by the name)... Anyone know any others?
