I'm sure some of you must be tinkerers (or better).

I've been wanting to buy an old motorcycle to tinker with, repair, love and dote on for quite a while. I think I finally have the money to make it happen, but maybe not the space. Nevertheless, I think temptation is getting the best of me and I might drop a few (a couple = 2 and 3 <= a few < 10?) hundred on a 1965 Honda S90 which "isn't running." I'm super excited by the idea; just need to convince a buddy of mine to work on it with me / let me keep it at his house :)

So tell me about your projects.

I got a scooter, does that count?

"They're about guns, lasers, robots with laser guns in space. Monsters from the future. Explosions. Sylvester Stallone doing a backflip on top of a spike while Robocop carries a ghost up a mountain. Bombs and swords and that... IDM is awesome."

I ride a Suzuki GS500, it's my first. Haven't done any tinkering, only the most basic maintenance, not even touched the valves or carbs yet.

Part of me wants to get one of those 400 cc race bikes as a second bike, although I'm not sure I have what it takes to keep one running. The NC30 VFR400 seems to have a reputation for being near indestructible and having one of the smoothest running V4's available to the public with a nice and wide powerband. Imagine screaming around town on this thing:

Well, over here your bike needs to make at least 35 kW if you want to pass the test for the "proper" license. So the GS500 is more or less the minimum starter bike unless you are under 21, or insisting on getting the restricted license.

I have a Yamaha YZ-100 dirt bike. I've had it since I was about 12 or so...

Needs work, the piston ring broke and scratched the cylinder wall... I want to bore it out and put a bigger piston in there, it's just a matter of finding the time and someone to do the machine work, everyone I've talked to doesn't have the correct equipment to bore 2-stroke engine cylinders because they have the ports in the side of the cylinder

edit: I've never been a road-bike person

Motorcycles are cool in my book. unlike cars they're cheaper, don't have to be an advanced mechanic to fix them, and they don't ruin roads like heavy cars do.

Superbikes are really cool, and would probably be the end of my life if I ever owned one.

Laugh? You really own one? That thing looks wild, and lots of fun to cruise on

my commute to work right now is 7 miles on rural backroads. I'd like one of these but the wife (and bank account) is not cooperating.

Yeah its great fun, and extremely economical. 125cc with a max speed of around 95km/h. But IMO 80 km/h is scary on such a light bike (100kg). 5 litre tank will get you 150kms. But it has the dumbest name ever.

Hell yeah Jules. Scooters are the future of motorized transport I think,

for townies and city dwellers anyway.

Gas is just outrageous in a car. I drive a 4 cylinder Subaru and can easily blow $40 USD a week on gasoline.

So glad I started biking...

Scooters right now are extremely popular in my town, but only with the people who can't drive like drunks, addicts, and (not to sound racist here but) poor black people too.

The town next to mine is full of yuppie folk and the upper class, and the quality of the scooters scooting around there is much higher.

Even had a boss who rode to work on a really cool one, he scooted around town wearing a full suit, tie, and a Bell freestyle bike helmet. fucking hilarious!

I have a 4 cyl Subaru as well but it's a turbo so I use even more gas than I should. that Honda is 150cc and about $4000, seems a bit pricey.
