Portable music making?

Alright guys. I'm looking into options for portable music making. I guess my budget would

be £100-250 max.

Okay so the MPC500 looks fun and I can pick one of them up 2nd hand for about £250 fully expanded and I assume I can easily integrate it into my normal set up. I'm guessing midi files can just be transfered from it to say Ableton and visa versa which is cool. The MPC 1000 looks pretty dope too but I'm guessing that's bigger and less portable.

So what else is there? I guess you have Iphone and Itouch but they're kinda pricey and

from what I can tell and don't have the power of say an MPC.

Then you have the various Android phones. I don't know if there are any decent music programs for them yet and plus I'd want a way to hook them into my set up.

Anyhow thoughts are welcome guys.

Nice one.

The mpc1000 is very sick. It's only a bit bigger than the 500, but has multiple audio outs, and a much more capable sequencer. I recently won one on ebay but the knob never sent it. :(

the 1000 has the ability to run JJ os which will make it 50X more useful.

yeah an MPC-500 would be good for the money. also the old electribes are worth taking a look at, imho. - good machines for the money!

i wouldn't bother with any of the iPhone/iPad stuff, personally. plus they are ridiculously expensive anyway!

(i mean the things themselves, obviously. not the apps.)

What about a laptop?

Mm a mini laptop is certainly an option. Just not sure again if it'll be powerful enough compared to say an MPC500/1000. My experience with laptops and Ableton is that they have their limitations compared to a proper pc.

You could get a dual core ~2,5ghz with ~2-4gb of ram for like 150-200 pounds. And from your music it doesnt sound like you need more. I mean, it's not that complex or anything. I make music with dual core 2,13ghz and 1gb, it gets laggy if I load few Masives and Ozones with many automation clips but it's not necesarry to use the most cpu heavy plugins while making music on the go.

If you go to any dog's home they'll let you take a dog out for a walk - and for absolutely no cost! They even supply the lead! £50 would probably get you a tidy selection of tambourines, maracas, thumb cymbals and probably more. Affix these to the dog then it tease with a tennis ball, bam! You've got yourself a very cheap, portable, unpredictable, future music rhythm station.

This is simply not true.

Some songs I made with my fingers and electronics. In the process of making some more. Hopefully.

I know I was just being dumb lol. Well as long as they have a dual core processor and some decent ram I might plump for one and then get a cheapo usb soundcard for it!
