I like Opeth a lot, they've always been a consistent band with some great albums, I'll eventually be looking into this one I'm sure

fuck

On the album it follows the two-minute scene-setting opening piano piece “Heritage,” a song Åkerfelt says was inspired by Swedish jazz pianist Jan Johansson and Swedish folk music.

This seems cool tho. Any reference to Jan Johansson is ok in my book.

Haha, that album cover is hilarious. I love at least half of each album they release, so I will buy this.

Guest uptown devil

there is no opeth without lindgren and lopez in my opinion. watershed was a disaster, and it seems as though this one will follow suit. good thing their first eight albums were fucking incredible or i'd be disappointed.

Zole, yeah they should basically release the same album over and over again. That'd be awesome, I'd never tire of that..

I really don't understand this whole "Watershed was a disaster" thing that so many people keep carrying on with.... It fucking caned Ghost Reveries, which was stale Opeth-by-numbers.

That said they've never beaten My Arms / Still Life / Blackwater but then how can they? A perfect moment in time, all they can do now is try the best they can to have fun and make things that are a little different, which is why I think Watershed was a great success and hopefully this one will be too.

Watershed was fine. I like them. This album sounds more like a Watershed type dealy. I'm gonna pick it up but I don't expect to love it as i do my arms and still life. But i haven't expected that since i first heard my arms and still life. Given their track record i'm guaranteed to like, as zephyr said, at least half the album unless they truly fuck up.

Hmm I've listened to this three times so far and I'm not convinced it's that good yet...

I think there are definitely some beautiful moments (the last track in particular) but I'm not sure what to make of it as a whole. I definitely need to listen a few more times before I can say for sure how I feel about it but at the moment it seems like a bit of a letdown. Maybe when I get used to it I can start to get into it more..

Still yet to fully digest but after a few listens i find it to be very relaxing music, not too bad, i think it might grow on me more once i give it some more time.

Time will tell how good this actually is, but it's not that surprising that mikael has gone this way. Furthermore I think it's refreshing that they aren't trying to churn out my arms part 7 and so on.

Just enjoying it for what it is...

Really wasnt sure about this at first but after a few good listens am really enjoying it, Is different and has a nice subtlety and space to it.

Time will tell how much I like this compared with their other albums but good on them for experimenting and making something which is very much Opeth but quite a change of direction.

As a huge proggie I should love Heritage. Don't get me wrong, I do like it and there are some fantastic tracks on Heritage but I just feel something is missing, and it's the heaviness.

I saw them on the tour and some in the audience were a little upset that there were no growls. I knew what to expect and was aware there'd be none of that material. Hex Omega and Porcelain Heart were outstanding along with the Heritage material especially Devil's Orchard. I really enjoyed the gig but it would have been nice to hear Deliverance or Drapery Falls.

I think most people knew not to expect growls during the tour, they were just trolling. The highlight of the show for me was A Fair Judgement. I'm sure with the amount of popularity Opeth has now they'll have the funds to tour again very soon. This was an album specific tour and although they didn't play an awful lot from the new album, the vibe of the set list matched it. I expect next tour to be more metal oriented. Sucks though because that kind of tour would be more appropriate for Katatonia to join along with.

The show felt more like a Tool gig than a metal gig anyways. Buncha bros with their fat girlfriends who couldn't stop squealing during some songs. Nobody gave a shit about Katatonia.

The album hasn't done anything for me. Just kind of "ok so this is what the big deal is? It's not blowing me away but its not making me vomit either."
