question about how you keep your record collection

i was talking to my om about this earlier, whether or not to keep the plastic liner that goes over the cover

she said she used to keep them to protect the album cover, i have never kept them for some reason and am now thinking maybe i should

i don't know, what do other people do with these?

I've only brought a few that had plastic covers with them. I keep them and just put them on a few records that are in worse condition than the others (to keep them from falling apart in the future) or rarer records to keep them fresh for the future.

yeah, i keep 90% of my records in slip covers. i have metal crates so the act of flipping through to find a record would probably damage the sides. most of my records i'd never sell, but i still like to keep them in the original condition if i can.

gotta respek the rek

For individual records, I try and keep them in plastic sleeves (though I don't actually buy them separately or anything, so it depends on whether or not they came in a sleeve to begin with).

As far as storing goes, I have the ikea 2x4 expedit, laying horizontally—has been working very well for me.

For moving, I use these fucking bad boys.

isent the sleeve to protect the reconrd now your putting the sleeve in a bag to protect the sleeve! whats next to put the bag in a bag to protect the 1st bag! this is crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i have some in those (old and rare and a few favourites), but when your records are stacked up on shelves it obscures the spines and makes the collection look rubbish

I put them in order of importance and overall grade of the record and its sleeve. Here's two examples:

If I have a loose plastic cover, and I notice Chiastic Slide and Bitches Brew isn't yet protected, then I'd cover up Chiastic Slide, because my copy of Bitches Brew is already pretty well fucked over, whereas Chiastic Slide still has the potential to stay in good condition.

If I have a spare plastic thingy and I have to decide between covering up Big Soup by Vibert and an Earth Wind and Fire LP, then I'll choose Big Soup simply because I want to keep that album in better condition, and because I listen to it more than Earth Wind and Fire.

I used to put all my DJ 12's in plastic back in the day... People thought I was silly...

Now I'm preparing to sell most of them on ebay and their in amazing condition! (instead of VG, I'm selling VG+)

Vinyl records are assets... Protect them!

my local record shop sells them so i'm going to buy ALOT! mostly for records i've bought new, no point really for the old used stuff and thrift shop finds

I like them sleeves from Japan that are resealable. I put those on the more expensive records in my collection.
