It is one of the toughest mountain bike challenges in Europe; Trans-Alps - where competitors race more than four hundred miles and climb more than 21,000 meters.

Two engineering lecturers from Oxford have just finished it - using bikes, made partly from bamboo.

They are now hoping their design can be produced commercially.

There's a californian (?somewhere west coast USian) company that makes bamboo bikes, already commercialized the idea. I think they use more bamboo components too.
