Guest
Is it me or does this song sound exactly like an Amon Tobin track like Supermodified / Permutations era? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HBD4z2BeYQg Did he write this song or something? seriously?!?! Like all the details of it - like the beats - the horns - the melodies - screams Amon to me. I'm not too familiar with Bonobo but does he have other tracks like this? chim
they were released in the same year, both albums are staples of the trip hop genre. tobin's first album (as cujo) was much more of a ripoff of existing albums, and he's gradually ventured off into other music. bonobo has been doing his thing more consistently. I'm genuinely curious, I'd love to explore the artists that inspired this kind of music. for good measure, one of my favorite tracks ever http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AiH7Qktlf-g not ripping off per se but rather typical of the general turntablism/trip hop sound of the time, like dj krush, shadow, dj cam, dj food + ninjatune artists like visit venus and funki porcini, he just blended the sound with ambient drum and bass rolls which i'm sure were plentiful by then. i should give you some examples but i never kept good track of specifical uptempo triphop music. whatever traces of triphop there are left by supermodified are hardly original (but nevertheless quite excellent) and bonobo is still a bigshot in the genre (though i dislike his later vocal collaborations and such). it just isn't fair comparing the two. jeremymacgregor87
Not exactly the same but as Chimera said, it's not surprising to find two mid 90s Ninja Tune artists with very similar sounds. Hell, I play some ninja cuts comps and find a lot of the artists interchangeable Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Hide jeremymacgregor87's signature Hide all signatures profundity Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/67943-bonobos-dinosaurs/#findComment-1631376 Share on other sites

BobDobalina
For my fellow bonobo fans here, ninja tune posted the 2-hour unedited version of his Solid Steel mix (originally aired in 2005) on their mailing list a few weeks ago. great stuff! http://www.megaupload.com/?d=7WUWTXXD Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Hide BobDobalina's signature Hide all signatures CA$HNE$$ Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/67943-bonobos-dinosaurs/#findComment-1631807 Share on other sites

awepittance
my take is Ninja Tune used to be a very homogenous sounding label where the artists where almost meant to echo the same style.
