Question for Macbook Pro folks

Recommended Posts

Guest Mirezzi

Okay, so I'm totally confused by the history of i7 processors and the Sandybridge family.

I looked at the refurbs and they have i7 2.8 GHz processors in the 15" Macbook Pro. Then, they have 2.3 GHz quad-core i7 versions for a few hundred dollars more. The quad-cores are stated to be twice as fast for certain applications as the earlier i7 processors.

NOW, for brand new 15" Macbook Pro, I see that the fastest offering is a 2.2 GHz quad-core i7...which doesn't make any sense to me. Anybody up on the history of the i7 line? It's driving me crazy.

Different architecture. All the 2011 MBPs are sandy bridge. Don't know the specifics but clock for clock sandy bridge is supposed to be 10-20% faster than the previous nehalem.

yeah, clock cycles rarely mean that much these days, it's more about the architecture of the CPU.

does this mean you'll be making a purchase, The Overlook?
