edit: or it could be the springs, I'm not sure what he/she means by unresponsive.

Some songs I made with my fingers and electronics. In the process of making some more. Hopefully.

Promo doesn't give a shit about our opinions.

No of course do! :-) I've actually decided not to get it because I need to just be careful with my money over the next month or two and plus reading up more about it I thought I'd give it a miss for the mo. The price is good but the faulty keys concern me a little. If anyone wants a link to the ad and you live in London just let me know though. You might be able to get the price down by a further £20-30 due to the faulty keys.

how much does he want for it? it's a pretty crap-ish synth, though it does have an (ONE!) analogue VCF.

£100 but 'cause 2 black keys aren't working you might be able to get him down to £70-80. The patches on Youtube I saw sounded pretty sweet but I'm not if that Poly 800 had been moded.

I like the Poly-800. It was my first midi synth. It's got chord memory and a fun little sequencer that you can sync up to a drum machine or whatever. You can get some good sounds with it if you're willing to dive into the (not very fun) programming of it.

That being said, I sold mine a little while back. I wouldn't mind picking up an ex-800 some day though.

It was my first midi synth as well, sold it 10 years ago but bought another one in 2009. Mk1 has a bbd chorus that can make it sound pretty lush (even though it's noisy).

I never considered it a polysynth, the paraphonic architecture always made me use it either as a mono synth (especially after i modded it with cutoff/reso knobs and 2/4pole switch) or a chord-string machine. Or a bleepbloop noisemaker machine :) the filter is evil and it can be modulated from the jack input on the back. You can set the resonance to self-osc and then modulate the cutoff freq with an audio signal... while the filter also responds to (note-tracked) midi sequence and at the same time you can still tweak the knobs furiously. Fun stuff.

I saw people doing very good tunes only using the Poly-800. I think, like any other synths, that it's usefull in certain situation & for particular types of sounds, mostly pads, organs & bass (due to the excellent VCO filter). I own one & I like to play with it.

By the way - mine occasionally would have keys that didn't work. I would open it up, get the dust out and then they would work again. That's all it was.
