It's a flash+java in-browser music making thing. somewhere between reason and rebirth -- you're presented with a tabletop and you can place down gear and connect cables

I tried it two years or so ago. It was much simpler then -- much fewer modules. it was fun, but not terribly deep. today, though, tontonz reminded me of it, and i went to see there was a new version. about five hours disappeared as i did a track on it.

the new modules add a lot! things are much more entertaining. i think they're really onto something here. if you like acid, it's great. very focused, very few distractions. sounds decent enough. and i was amazed to find it supported automap! that, in particular, was revolutionary. doing everything via mouse was crap!! that's why i never got into it. just about any parameter you want is available for automap, and it really busts the lid off of the thing.

HOWEVER !!

  1. They removed the "record wave" function! Unless I missed it, which I don't think I did. Trying to get this recorded was a nightmare; I wound up just recording it to my MPC and then back into Cubase.
  2. The latency is still pretty bad. It took some practice to get the fader timing right. Even then I still messed up bits
  3. The Sequencer is still pretty raw. You can't do many editing basics, like copy and paste. It was fine for doing a loop, but the idea of sequencing a whole track with this shit is a nightmare.
  4. It doesn't save automap mappings!! I had to redo them all at one point. :wtf:
  5. The reverbs sound pretty crap and there is no non-tempo sync'd delay

here is the track i did

here is its audio tool page (i exported my loop as it was when i hit stop, ha!)

You can load my project up yourself (minus automap mappings ) and jam with it.

wow yeah, this has grown loads since I first saw it! tracks pretty cool too btw!

Might just be me being stoopid, but is there a way you can DL java web browser based things and run them stand alone on a computer? just wondering since maybe it'd mean better latency etc.

i have a feeling it already does that. flash is just a pig in terms of performance, though, and java ain't much better. but, like, it works. and it's in a browser.

maybe have a watmm audiotool challenge kinda like the 30min acid jam ?

i thought about that, then i figured there'd be a lot of discussion about it too, since we're all using the same unexplored new bit of software!!

so i say post your audiotooling here. and your thoughts about audiotooling

I remember doing some cool stuff with it, but I can't find the files anymore :S

welcome to software as a service, where your data is... somewhere. they're also completely entitled to change everything on a moment's notice and invalidate all your existing projects. perhaps this is what happened to you, impakt. did you do your cool stuff in version 1? maybe those went away with the release of ver2.

but, yeah, i'd stick to day projects with this shit !

Personally I like the older version better when it was on hobnox. Much more user friendly, smooth interface, and it was very simple to test new sound designs. The newer just has too much to work with and I absolutely loathe the layout. It seems like they tried to hard to give you as much as possible even though the older versions had tons to offer if you just experimented around with it. Could just be me, but I found recording with the newer version incredibly difficult. I've yet to record anything on there that I like besides some droney soundscapes. Perhaps if I played around with it more I could find some use out of it, but the learning curve is too steep for me to even enjoy using it.

These are songs that I made with using the old audiotool and made no post production mastering afterwards, what-so-ever

OK, well I did some editing in audacity with paranormal shift, but the other 2 are live sessions and basically just me noodling around. I wasn't even trying, but it still turned out pretty decent. If you wanna check out more of my audiotool creations, check out my album in the siggy vvv

If anyone else on here has an audiotool album, post it up!!!

I tried to use my midi controllers with this and with my M-Audio Delta 24/96 Audiophile set at 256 buffer rate (which should be like 5ms) it must be like 700ms of latency. What is the point in having midi with that latency? Is their anyway to circumvent the problemo?
