Warning.

So it is almost Autumn again - and right along with Opeth, I like to throw a little bit of Warning into my deck during those cool, crisp months. I don't know if it's because I first listened to them around this time last year ...or if I enjoy the feeling of sheer terror helping me come to terms with my own mortality, but ever since I randomly came across this page over a year ago http://sickness-still-abounds.blogspot.com/2010/08/warning-warning-lp-electric-eyes-lp.html I have never been the same.

Sharing Music

 

Along the same lines above, asking for copyrighted music in a thread is generally frowned upon, as it does infringe upon the rights of the copyright holder. There's always exceptions to the rule, and if for any reason you are unsure about whether something is suitable to posting on the board and you are not the copyright holder, it's best to either ask a Mod or Administrator for advice. Don't assume that if something is out of print that it's alright to post; the copyright on that music still exists, and should be respected. Of course, if it's your own music, then fine, go right ahead, as long as you're not overly spamming your music and it's done in the appropriate forum/subforum.

Asking for copyrighted music is generally a no-no as well, for the reasons stated above, as well as it's basically making the forum a P2P site or a links site, facilitating piracy of copyrighted material. Being slick about it and not directly asking for the music, but still obviously implying you'd like someone to send you a copy is also frowned upon. Keep such discussions to PMs (Private Messages) or outside the forums. We can't stop you pirating music, but we do need to ensure that the forums don't get shut down over the overt sharing of copyrighted material.

Yes, thank you for the PMs and yes, I got them late. So I'm assuming that many youtube links here will be taken down as well ...since the only difference is a site such as vidtomp3.com (and the like) replacing megaupload.com as the music pirating vessel.

Maybe it's all for the better though. In retrospect, I don't think many people were ready for 2 neon laced darth vaders from West Germany

No... YouTube videos are fine, since you have to purposely use software to extract the music if you wanted to pirate it. Megaupload is purposely providing the ability to pirate by offering global filesharing.

just curious how is streaming something VS downloading not pirating vs pirating? is that your own distinction to enforce the rules or is there another reason why you have made that distinction.

for new members especially it would be confusing to see tons of copyright violations in the form of youtube links and knowing that the 'rules' definition of illegal fire sharing doesn't include youtube links, seeing all the youtube links would give people the impression that illegal file sharing is allowed on this forum, because essentially that's what it is.

Think of youtube like a (highly customizable) radio station.

Think of posting links to places like megaupload etc. as being the back of a station wagon with a shady russian handing out copied CDs.

Yeah I think low-quality youtube videos are different from 320kbps Megaupload links.

That said, I did check this band out, great stuff!

I believe that there is always going to be some form of grey area when it comes to music sharing -no matter how it is viewed legally/ethically ...but since this is one of the more visible message boards on the net, I understand why you want to minimize any risks.

All post-title irony aside, will I have to bear my status badge indefinitely?
