Not quite as long of a wait as Plaid's Scinitilli, but it's still been forever since a new album was announced and it finally has a release date. Sounds more electronic than the last 2 albums. I've been a big fan of SP for a long time but the 2 reunion albums so far have been very meh for me. I'm glad to have been able to see them live 3 times since, though. The reunion material sounds much better live when surrounded by older tracks. Anyway, I'm feeling I may like this more, based on the samples. Sound a little "light" rather than dense in sound, but we'll see.

Yes!!! I still really like everything they do, except for the track "ugLi", but as long as they don't make that track again this should be all good. But I also may be the only person in the world who thinks The process is their best album without question.

Yeah I'm sure I've seen you at those shows sidewinder. And in full agreement about the last couple albums after the reunion. I have to disagree and say I'd love a whole album of ugli-ish tracks. And as a lurker over at litany for years I'd have to say I love the older stuff and always set my hopes way to high.

The "In Solvent See" tour is the only time I saw them in Seattle; prior to that I saw them in Houston for Greater Wrong of the Right in 2004 and New Orleans for Mythmaker in 2007.

This doesn't sound too good to me.

Zephyr -- I love The Process too! I liked the next album but didn't hear the '07 release.

Glad I'm not alone! You should definitely check out Mythmaker. It's carrying along in the same direction as TGWOTR, slightly more elaborate with the production details, sharper sound. I really like it.

Exclusive: Skinny Puppy Premieres New Song “Village”

If this song is any indication, I'm going to like this album more than the last two. I don't love it, but it's far more in line with what I like about SP than the last two have been.

Lord, that song was bad enough for me to sign in and comment. It doesn't sound any better to these ears than the very underwhelming Mythmaker. Sounds like many other generic, tuneless, crappy industrial songs. Like a bad Front Line Assembly song or something. Yuck.

I don't know what happened to this band, and I don't say it often, but they should have probably stayed split apart.

it sounds like a song from the Process except with all the heart and soul completely sucked the fuck out of it. Wow this is awful

it's too bad they find metal guitars in industrial music so exciting still, i'd so much rather them jump on the minimal wave band wagon right now.

haha the song Mr Brownstone is hilariously bad. Ever since post Process Ogre's lyrics and delivery style has taken a turn for the worse. Very whimsical even rappy at times, cant listen

I agree his vocal delivery has taken a turn for the worst since The Process, had a hard time getting into any ohGr stuff and the last two puppy albums. Still, I'm expecting to like this one more.

I've still only heard one song, Village.

I hear you on that, it's normal for interest in certain bands or styles of music to fade with time. I'm older now and don't listen to dark stuff as much. I used to thrive on it, it used to make me feel alive, nowadays their back catalog is too dark and depressing for frequent listening. Doesn't make me appreciate the quality and their impact any less, though. But I definitely don't like their post-Process output (or even The Process itself) as much as everything before that.

In Solvent See was the name of the tour. I don't think it was ever mentioned as being the forthcoming album name.

I'm sorry...I can't bring myself to look a them again...or deface this thread with their presence. They are THAT bad. Really baffling how they could even consider those halfway decent.

on the Process while there were peppered moments of Vocal awfulness , like songs like Cult which have a very poppy ballad like Ogre delivery, actually start out promising but then degenerate into absolute hilarity when the chorus starts (talk about a full on song ruiner)

what i really do miss about Ogre's old vocal style is that sometimes his vocals were almost like quasi spoken word (even on Process tracks like Blue Serge, which i think is an excellent late 'good' Puppy track) they would sometimes completely go off the rails rhythmically creating a sort of uncomfortable feel on a lot of skinny puppy tracks. It sounds almost like he only got in the swing of doing rhythmic /rhyme stanzas after the Process and now he forces it into every song he writes. Its completely unlistenably cheesy to me.

I hear you, he tries to sing too much since The Process and that's not his strength. Creepy more spoken word type stuff was a better fit.

I agree with you on Blue Surge, one of the best on The Process.

Well I obviously can't speak for anyone else, but I love those two albums because I think it all works together very well aesthetically, the production's detailed and interesting, and it doesn't sound overtly like anything else that anyone else is doing. There are of course bits borrowed from here and there, but it's combined in a way that's quite original. It helps that I don't find rhythmic vocal deliveries to be inherently cheesy, though I agree he does overdo it these days. It would be nice to have a bit more diversity in what he's doing vocally, but I felt that about the old stuff as well when he was mostly ranting in that harsh evil english accent. I've always liked Skinny Puppy in spite of the vocals, and after a while I just got used to them and grew to like it. Anyway, I like that they found a whole other direction to take it in since they reformed, equally compelling in my opinion (though it sounds like they may be taking a step back from the sampling I heard off this album, plus the last Ohgr album was surprisingly mediocre and generic, especially after Devil In My Details.)

I got this yesterday and have played it twice. Right off the bat I like it a LOT more than the last two. Quite enjoyable album, and very chill at times. It has room to breathe, unlike the last two IMO.
