Ableton and Remote SL

I fire up Ableton and Ableton's automap takes over. "Please select a device in live to edit it..." it says.

I've been flicking over to the plain "Automap" template and there it's just CC controllers that I can map in Live. However, when I click on a device, the Remote switches BACK to the Ableton template and shows me all the device parameters. I don't want it to do this. How do I stop it from changing the mode on me like this?

Thanks!

edit: to clarify, I don't want its pre-defined mapping. i want to make my own, and i don't want one device to take over all the controls.

but that's what i am using to set it up!!! :(

i could always switch it to plain ol' non automap mode, but then i have to edit all the CCs 'n' crap on the novation's tiresome button menu system. it's really easier to do it with a mouse.

here are some ideas i had:

- is there is a setting in ableton that will stop it from changing the current automap focus/etc. when you click/select a device?

- maybe there are MIDI settings either in Ableton or on the Novation i need to change

- i could delete the "Ableton Automap" template on my Novation. i don't even know if it'd let me, or if that'd do any good, since ableton seems to really be running the show here (and i want it to stop)
