Smash TV (Sparkle Motion) Hour Long VIDEO MIX

Oh man. Ohhhhh man. Have I been excited for this day. After nearly 50 mixes under my belt, I wanted to do something more ambitious this time around. So for the past 6 months I have been working on the most epic VJ mix the world has ever seen. It's clips from 44 movies I cherish from the 80s and early 90s, set to one of my mixes.

I'll just let the video do the talking, and so I present to you, Smash TV - Skinemax. I recommend going full screen for the full experience.

Glad you like the video! I made the audio mix a while ago and a lot of the music in there definitely has a throwback 80s pop feel to it, so that inspired the video choices. I plan on doing more of these if time permits so at some point I may do one with old music and footage from the time period.

I can't not like the video even if I want too.

the music fits well but only works for me with the footage, not sure I'd like it without but then again I'm sadly old enough to remember the 80's first time round however I'm defo gong to give this a proper sesh on the big telly when my mates are round with some good coke :derp:

Oh cool it's the secret thing you told me about

Unlike the other guys, I think the music on its own is fucking awesome as well. But the video of course makes it even better. As you know, I'm familiar with music video editing and I know how much of a pain it can be. Now I see how much you've synced the video to the music, and I see why you've been working on it for such a long time. Lots of stuff from my childhood in there.

I'm only 10 minutes in now but it looks great and I'm really digging those tunes I've never heard before. I thought Com Truise made bad music because of the boring pun name but the track is ace.

You know what I might do? I might make up for the missed opportunities to play your Halloween-mixes and ask my friend to bring his projector for Halloween so I'll have this playing on my wall along with the music. Might get people to dance, at last. They never do that when they're at my place, some of them have a rather "normal" (or no) taste in music, but I think these tracks are accessible enough, and they work quite well when brought into a Halloween context don't you think? They're a bit creepy if heard under the right circumstances.

Of course there's gonna by my own new Halloween mix as well, but they most certainly won't dance to that.

Does vimeo allow uploading such things by the way? I was planning on using it for my own stuff but some of it features copyrighted music, and it seemed to me they were kinda strict with their policies.

Oh and you just made me remember how badly I had the hots for that evil Adams Family girl when I was a kid ... lol ...

They probably would take issue with it but it seems there is so much stuff on there that it probably won't get noticed. I've heard tons of stories from people who have gotten instabanned on youtube but never noticed for the same exact video on Vimeo. I tweeted all the artists involved and I would hope they would be more flattered than pissed but you never know.

And yes, even though Christina Ricci has a five-head and looks kind of like an alien, I would still hit it.

Thanks for the kind words as always! Yeah this took ages, it was 3000 edits or something, not to mention cutting up all the films and fine tuning it to match with the music. Glad you like the music as well, a lot of it has a bit of that VHS Head vibe, although poppier in most places.

I was actually thinking this would be cool at a Halloween party too, you should definitely do it! I think this would be much more accessible to a crowd than the past stuff, plus it's got video. Let me know how it turns out.

lol that was Christina Ricci?

By the way, you happen to have an mp3 version of the mix as well? I could do a convert but the quality loss and all (although the audio quality on the video is pretty good, which I'm sure you set up that way)

Two threads now, which one do I post in?

If I can be the catalyst behind a coke party, then I have done my job. Thank you sir.

its funny how when you go to after parties you just end up getting fucked over a glass coffee table and seeing what funky stuff you can find on youtube and I think this has maybe pushed the envelope into an art form

party compilation for the youtube generation and it will make me appear soo down with the shit when I put it on in the presence of fine ladies

:ok:

Yeah, Ricci's first big role. I'll be uploading higher quality audio today. It did lose quite a bit of quality on Vimeo but it's decent enough. Not sure which thread will survive, I normally don't crosspost but wanted to make sure this didn't get buried.

:ok:

Thanks! I appreciate the compliment, hope this catches on in that regard!

Fact: Most good things get buried because most of them require a bit of patience. Luckily this is short-attentionspan-friendly enough so it's gonna survive while still being good. :derp:

This is absolutely awesome!

  • 4 weeks later...

So this went viral yesterday and it's fuckin' weird. I never thought people would glom onto something like this but it has already gotten posted on The Daily What, Buzzfeed, and Dangerous Minds. Two days ago, I had like a thousand views and now it is almost up to 50K and growing. Pretty cool though, I've never had any of my work really extend outside of this forum. Thanks for getting the ball rolling guys. Oh internets, you so crazy!
