new iPad app from Moog music

Recommended Posts

thing this is fresh out today. new synth app from Moog. pretty nice, actually very nice.

it's still limited as with any mobile music apps, but it sounds pretty fantastic, only got it earlier today so can only give a first impression atm.

the engine is built around a type of wave table thing. you can assign one of several wave shapes to each row of an XY controller and then morph around between them, you can also plot a movement through the XY area for animation through wave forms. you get control over rate and loop modes for the automation data.

There's a pretty sweet sounding multimode filter, with input level control, and a dedicated envelope.

A decent, if simple delay. has tempo sync though which is cool.

A multi purpose module with bit rate reduction, distortion and unison function.

Nice lfo with several wave shapes, midi sync.

quite a few options for modulation routing.

The interface is really good though, very tidy and functional. my favourite aspect is the keyboard which also sends usable values on the vertical plane, makes it really expressive and fun.

app runs pretty stable. Had it crash once. Haven't tried it with midi yet.

best part though, announced to go for $30, but for a limited time, retails at .99 or 69p for us Brits.. Well good!

Safe. Probably the only thing I'm gonna be able to afford with the Moog name attached to it. Fuck it for 69p its worth a punt eh.

Heh yeah same here.. here's to hoping the next iteration of the mini moog comes with a 69p introduction price.

To be fait though, this thing is well worth getting, dunno if Id be happy spending £30 on it when the price does go there. It is very good though, certainly one of the best sounding apps about

Guest SecondaryCell

Best synth app ever - the keyboard is genius (reminds me of Buchla). This thing seems to be very playable, I love how the keyboard can be customized, the glide and legato functions, etc.

And it sounds excellent.

I'm still trying to figure out the main x/y screen though...

the x/y screen threw me off at first too... both the x and y values can be assigned to modulate different timbres (see the timbre panel) - it's in the manual here

you can design your own orbits & x/y path by selecting the 'edit' button in the path menu on the right side of the screen.

the record/playback and overdub on this thing is a ton of fun - super easy to crank out short ambient jams.
