'First part of the Drexciya re-issue series! Drexciya might need an introduction for some, for others it is the most influential techno project ever. Part of the heritage of Detroit's Underground Resistance, Drexciya explored techno music like no-one else before. Raw and uncompromising music that reflects the harsh environment of the city where Drexciya was conceived. The aesthetics and the mythical approach combined with the unique music made this one of the biggest cult projects in techno music. Drexciya arguably stands for the darker side of techno and electro, music not only made for the club scene, but a further development of the music as an expression and extension of the mind. 20 years after the release of ''Deep Sea Dweller'' (their first release), and 10 years after ''Grava 4'' (their last), we present ''Journey Of The Deep Sea Dweller''. This series is an almost complete collection of their early works, and is remastered from the original master tapes. Since the original releases have such a strong character, appeal and stand on their own, this re-issue can never re-create the magic of those originals. So instead we stirred up the catalogue taking the tracks out of their original context, giving the 'in the know' listener a fresh experience and the new listener a document that is the best possible introduction to the aquatic world of Drexciya.'

Drexciya is all good, though most of these tracks were on The Quest, why not just remaster/reissue The Quest and throw in additional disc(s) of the shit that hasn't been released on CD?

Because chronology, history, reverence for the integrity of the work of the Eternal Masters - not to mention fucking common decency - all mean less to the clowns at Clone than "stirring it up" to appeal to the 130 or so people on the planet who already own all the original issues in question. It's not like these reissues wouldn't sell like crazy even without this misinformed idea of novelty value, is it?

Yeah, that blurb's rationalization for 'stirring it up' is pretty bullshit. Let's just call a spade a spade and say the tracklist has been arranged in an arbitrary order.

It's a shame they're not using the original tracklist, but it's better than no reissue at all no?

True. I'd be curious to know how many volumes they plan to stretch this over.

i don't see the problem, i quite like the way clone are releasing these. it's actually more convenient than having loads of reissued 12"s lying around.

Unreleased track and new remastered sound, good enough for me! I'm sick of all their tracks anyway.

they are doing a good thing by releasing drexciya on vinyl again anyway, who cares, great picks.

The remastered tracks sound ace, Bubble Metropolis daaaaaaaaaaaayum :music:

yes, they definitely sound better on journey... than I remember them sounding on the quest, although I haven't listened to that one in a while.

unknown journey is a monster beast track. lush lush lush, the baseball card in the spokes of a bicycle wheel effect = totally mental. worth it, worth it. can't wait to see what else clone can pull from the drexciyan depths. hopefully much more.

Yeah, hope more unreleased tunes will follow. Although I do wonder if Stinson would've given permission for releasing those, I guess so.

what's especially great is that they include a download code with the record as well. clone are doing it right.
