Is there a good source online for 80s keyboard samples?

Recommended Posts

I'm getting some sounds together for my next project and would like some sounds like those used in early sample based keyboards, such as the Casio CT-370:

I'm mostly looking for 80s stuff, since the 90s got a bit too serious and clean sounding for my tastes. I'll probably end up caving and buying a cheap old keyboard to sample, but if there are any libraries out there I'd love to see them!

Thanks for this, I didn't know it was out there.

Is circuit bent stuff of any use to your project, or do your keyboards have to sound unintentionally gritty?

I just want pure 80s PCM samples (pre-general midi era I guess), not circuit bent. I want to make music like this:

.. and so on. Basically the more cheesy side of 80s electronic production. No cool FM synths or anything (though I might use some DX7 bell sounds). At the moment it's looking like I'll be going back to old trackers (probably MilkyTracker so I don't have to build a DOS box for FT2), so the music will be entirely sample based.

Remember the ST sample series? Here is all of them

Yep, I found all of those lastnight. A great resource! I'll definitely be using a lot of those.

edit: Actually I might have to grab that pack if they're in WAV format. The ones I downloaded are in IFF format with no extension, a bit of a pain to load into a newer tracker.

edit again: Ok, I previously only had the first 6 sets. That pack is absolutely ridiculous. I think that's all I could possibly ever need, with the exception of various sound effects/sweeps which I'll just create myself.

http://www.buchty.net/ensoniq/files/the_waves.zip here is the raw samples and single cycles of the ensoniq SQ-80 ripped directly from the chip, I can't find this link or information on the buchty site itself but there is a txt in the zip. The 1024 sample cycles are F1 i think.

Holy shit, the memories. Thank you!

Some songs I made with my fingers and electronics. In the process of making some more. Hopefully.

Awesome! I'll have to grab this when I get back home tonight.

I did end up using a bunch of the ST-xx samples (as well as some from my dad's Casio CT-370) on this track:

http://pselodux.com/collab/Pselodux%20-%20Sine%20Language.mp3

CT-370 provided the amazing bell and string sounds, and the ST samples are the drums (that snare, holy fuck!) and most of the lead sounds (everything except the hard sync lead, which was a Reaktor synth). I think I'm gonna use the CT-370 samples a lot more often; they're so cool. The slap bass sounds almost exactly like the one used in that Rustie track.
