Wow, just woke up 2 hours ago, was completely devastated by this festival. Was home at about 11 in the morning. Aphex´ show was the best I´ve seen (this was the 4th time). No nonsense, just started playing lots of acid immediately. I never heard him play so much analords, about 6 or 7 tracks (2 of the former unreleased tracks), a Universal Indicator track, Synthacon 9, the We Have Arrived mix and his Falling Free remix. Maybe he also played another track of himself, don't remember it that well. Also 2 or 3 Drexciya tracks where I went absolutely nuts and ofcourse the batshit crazy end with the lights and noise/Current Value. I was pretty much in the front going mad, few of my mates actually sneaked up on the VIP balcony, they were also in the videomapping going crazy. After that we almost met Aphex because again we got backstage and we saw him walking next to us, but unfortunately we didn't succeed because of security. /fanboy.

Anyway, the Aphex gig was amazing, but for the rest of the festival, there were alot of downsides to it. On our way to the bathroom for a collective piss, we were messing around, walking down the stairs in the most unconvential way we could (we were a bit drunk, but not hurting or involving anyone but ourselves), I was dragged down by my hair by a security guard. Also, the waiting line at the beginning of the evening was very badly arranged, and we couldn't bring food or water (I had some for the looong way back) in our bag so that was thrown out, only to put the bag in a save about 3 minutes later, only to see again at the end of the festival. Ridiculous. Also, there wasn't a normal place to hang your coat or anything, the only option was to rent a very small save for 10 euro's, 5 euros you got back in the end of the evening. When we opened the save, getting our coats, our key was being stolen by some low-life hippie, but we managed to get it back luckily. Besides all this crap, LFO was also cancelled which was very dissapointing and also had some consequences, because they were scheduled to play at the same time as Amon Tobin, which was now really crowded. That, in combination with a serious lack of fresh air in that room was when we just left Amon Tobin after about 40 minutes, of which 15 minutes were rubbish because the visuals weren't ready yet so there was only the occasional ambient bleep. The rest of the line-up was pretty boring, especially compared to 2009 (Aphex, Squarepusher, Vibert, Ceephax, VSnares, etc.). Beardyman was ok but didn't hold our interest that long, and the last few hours there was only dubstep played which I totally didn't like.

All in all it was a pretty good experience, the art expositions were also interesting, the food and beer were good, but it was mainly thanks to my friends and Aphex for the great day/night/morning.

Where's wally.?

triachus

yelling AAAA really straings the voice, and the tiny h really represents the struggle and hardship a vocal chord must endure for yelling AAAA

It was great indeed. Aphex Twin definitely put up the best show of the night (for me it was the first time). I believe the third track already was pouring acid into the hall >=) There were also interesting shows before midnight. I think it was WALLS that played some live house/ tech house with live drums, guitar and keys which was interesting.

I also wanted to see Kutmah. His set was alright, but I expected a bit more. His beats were very similar to those of flying lotus , but lacked the production and creativity Los Angeles has.

So if I understand well Amon Tobin started without the projections? Half an hour prior to Amon Tobin we decided to go to the other hall, because of the lack of fresh air and it being so damn hot in the hall where Amon Tobin was going to perform. After 20 minutes we wanted to go back, but the doors were closed and we couldn't get in. We were pretty dissapointed also because of the bad techno that was playing in the other hall... 20 minutes later we were allowed in, and I have to say those ISAM visuals were not bad. I tried to listen to the album, I really did, but I thought it lacked character, so the music was a bit dissapointing (but that discussion is not the purpose of this thread).

I totally agree. After Aphex everything sounded a bit dull to be honest... Especially DJ PIRO and that boring, o so boring and mainstream sKream type of producer Throlley Snatcha or whatever his name is was depressing. In the end there was some 80's house in the lounge area which was a good alternative though.

Then you are the second person I have heard of / seen being treated in such a way. When we were leaving Klokgebouw we saw a guy (and a girl) being grabbed and hurt by the security. We almost called the cops because we thought that treatment was completely disproportionate, wasn't fun to see, that's for sure. The guy was a bit drunk, but he wasn't exaggerating... Oh well... Besides those facts we had an awesome time.

Looking at those photo's I'm glad I didn't go after all, I do not handle big crowds very well... I remember only holding out for 10 minutes at STRP 2009, i was literally standing on other people's feet, a fucking mess. LFO was cancelled though?

I was at the 2009 show as well and that was a lot worse. It was a lot bigger, very cramped and the sound was awful. I thought this was fine to be honest. Packed, but I was close to the front and had enough place to dance. I loved the show, great fun.

No, there was a long ambient intro. Probably because they needed to do some setup. But the set started with projections as normal.

Nope, that was The Field. The original time-table was fucked up.

Wow. What a huge event. I thought STRP was a bit more familiar. Now I'm happy I didn't went there although seeing Aphex again (and all the other good artists there) would be great.
