Creating an audiovisual experience

I'm trying to make a soundtrack that I'm going to add some video stuff to. Ableton can sync video and audio but not cut the video, is there a good, preferably free tool where you can add up video (.avi) and audio and cut/edit the video as needed so it will sync up? It'd be great if there was some image cropping tool in there as well, or exotic editing thingies.

if you're on a mac then iMovie is pretty decent.

Oh wow, this looks really good.

If you're wanting to get into editing and stuff I would recommend something like premier or aftereffects, but as stated above these are also pro tools and have a bit of a curve.

if you need frame accurate sync then imovie is not for you, never heard of lightworks looks pretty good, hope there will be a version for mac
