Wanted: Leaving Records Cassettes

Recommended Posts

Been absolutely obsessed with this stuff lately - Matthewdavid and his label have taken the lo-fi beat scene to an entirely new level in my opinion. Almost everything I've heard from them has been incredible. Problem is, everything gets released in such small quantities that it's nearly impossible to track a physical copy down. But if anyone here has any cassettes they'd be willing to part with, I'd gladly pay a handsome amount. The ones I'm most interested in are the Dem Hunger and Ssaliva tapes, but really I'd love to get my hands on anything. Let me know, thanks!

I have 8 Leaving tapes: Dem Hunger, Ras G, Ssaliva, Odd Nosdam / Matthewdavid split, Sun Araw & Matthewdavid live, Ryan York, Oscar McClure, & Sumsun.

I'm not really looking to sell any of them, but I guess I might be able to part with the Sumsun tape if the price was right.

Ahh thanks but naw, I can feel ya there. That's probably the one I'd be willing to part with too haha. Not that it's not good music or anything, it just doesn't seem to lend itself to the format as well as the more fucked up creepy shit on the label. In related news, though, this is probably the dopest beat of 2011:

The Sun Araw + Matthewdavid live tape is my favorite Sun Araw release, hands down—actually picked up a VHS tape of it with analog video effects for visuals. That being said, I've been trying to cut off any cassette purchases from here on out. Everything else on the label has been looking really solid, but they need to commit more of their releases to vinyl.

I agree with that.

Where did you find that (the VHS tape)?

oops sorry, i forgot i commented ITT. it was available on the sun araw site for $15(?) but doesn't appear to be available any longer. quick write-up here. for what it's worth, i would invest in his SUN ARK EDIT BAY #1 cassette—Sun Araw-ized mixes of disco songs.

i suggested on the leaving-records fb-page to rerelease that ssaliva as a rainbow coloured vinyl, but they deleted my comment.

What a nice idea. I really like the first Ssaliva album the second hasn't done it to me. Hmm you should ask them friendly via mail again…

Other related news - Dem Hunger has just released a new free album called Cleaners on his tumblr as Wanda Group. Highly recommended!

i have the davis cassette, the first track is pretty tight. the b side is spoken word and ambient. we could work out something quite reasonable if you're interested. that ssaliva track is good indeed.
