right now I have the original metroid theme song but I'm pretty tired of it. I don't know how to make them and I've yet to come across a good free iPhone ring source. I do have a good r2-d2 one too.

Can't you just use any mp3/wav as a ringtone or is that seen as too 'proprietary' a format by Apple ?

There is a bit of hoop jumping but it's not too bad. Still can't change message tones though.

My phone is from 2005 I think, so it just has some random beeps I chose of its menu.

There have been times when it rings when I've heard children ask their parents what that noise is.

Alright, here are 8 of my custom ringtones, if you like them feel free to use as you wish. My current one is 'ring5', it sounds like a normal ringtone but more melodic.

I might make a few more, perhaps with some chippy portamentos..
