Danny O Flannagin
How do you guys feel about the organs and or electric pianos that are used in old 70s prog rock albums. Been listening to a fair amount of prog recently (Yes, Genesis, Emerson, Lake and Palmer) and I just can't take that instrument seriously. It usually completely ruins a track for me, especially when it's overused. It sounds childish and annoying. Maybe its just before my time but I do enjoy the synths that King Crimson uses and those defiantly do sound dated. So, what's your opinion on the use of this instrument. Do you just ignore it or do you genuinely enjoy it? roasty
No rhodes love? I love the EVP88 in logic pro and use it quite a bit, it has lovely tones very close in dynamics to the Fender's Do you frown upon Portishead's use of it? Hi T Moonweed
Richard Wright just about had the perfect touch for the Floyd sound with the hammond organ in the early 70s. Guest couch
I love hammond organs. I got to play one (a b-3 to boot) in a recording studio with the leslie speaker cabinet. Was sweet. Wish I had time to really experiment with it though. There's a heavy metal band called Ghost that uses the shit out of a hammond. It sounds awesome. I think it's best to add atmosphere to a song by droning. Playing riffs on it or whatever makes it sound cheesy.
