Swiss Government Declares Downloading for Personal Use Legal

I think this is really cool, people will no longer fear ridiculous million+ fines.

That being said i wish people would learn to support the artists more (if you like it buy it..eventually)

People who like music will support it. Therefore the music that is shit will go away cause no one will buy it.

It's such a difficult one, I think the issue is nowadays (I'm talking about my generation mainly) music isn't such a important feature. Music had much more of a social role then it does today, so it's value is decreasing. I'm not saying that any of this is good, but, times change and I think we have to find a way to allow for artist to get a payment, difficult times lay ahead.

I'd say it is still a very important feature today if not more so, at least in quantity. However, it is used in a non social way as a tool for people to avoid contact and dwell within themselves or for advertising. At least it often is in public spaces, i.e. people with headphones on transit, walking in public spaces and then those of us in urban areas are almost constantly exposed to music, whether we choose to be or not, car stereos, shops blasting music inside and outside, TV, radio...

I think the increased access we have to music these days has made us so saturated with it that it is often utilized as more of a semi-personal atmospheric background then as the social anthems as it perhaps was in the past.

You can get in the charts for selling a mere 100,000 records, thats really not that much! My parents generation used to be obsessed with what's in the charts or the latest hits etc, it sounds odd to you guys because you are involved in a smaller bubble of the music industry, but overall music isn't such a big thing anymore. Kids would rather buy a game for their PS3 or xbox etc, they can download music if they want to, which they do but it's not a 'special thing'. Even when I was in secondary school music wasn't the main thing that brought a social group together or even defined a social group (I'm not saying it's just music that does that but genres have their social groups)

I think the

This could also be due to the fact that smaller "indie" labels have become a hell of a lot more common than they were in the past.

Yeah, overall the industry is still minting it (and i'm not talking about the health of specific labels). The market has just diversified.

im more worried about the movie industries because with music they can just go do live shows and stuff and the good music makers always find ways to succeed because theres way to sell their music to people that they can only gett by PURCHASING it such as live shows and etc.

but however with movies thats not the same thing because movies take a zillion trillion dollars to make and if ppl keep down loading the movies instead f watching them in the tehater 1st of all theaters will go away 2nd of all the movie companies will go away too because therse no way for them to get budget and hire actors or props any more!!! i think its a true problem with movies but if i go to the movie store personally and i only see BLU RAY + DVD + DIGITAL COPY and its like 10 dollars more than it would be if it was JUST a blu ray and thas the only way to buy it personally i will down load it because thats a load of horse poo

also i dont think it should be illegal in the way u get fined zillions of dollars i just think ppl should be nice and only download the crappy movies and support the good 1s because honestly transformers and the smurfs should never be made

have to agree. music has lost it in mainstream culture. downloading has devalued music. its done nothing good that i can see. and I download like a mofo

People that watch and enjoy stuff like Transformer are too stupid to work torrents, that's the problem.

This is cause you are not a kid anymore, so not connected to the still thriving mainstream scene.

As for the films industry, i keep reading how their revenues keep breaking records. So they're just a bunch of corporate lying cuntbags who want to take away our rights when they cry poor.

same thing with music. look at the top sellers. people who don't know how to find the torrents.

i worked with high school kids recently. their taste in music was pathetic

but i know some kids that love music and seek it out. give everything a chance. these are special people

When i was in high school the taste of my peers was pathetic. Mainstream music has always been dross because it caters to the lowest common denominator, and that is most people. As most regular folks don't have any musical sense, as far as i can tell. They just need basic nursery rhymes to fill in the background to social events as such like. And that's cool. I ain'ts gots no problems wid dat.

they are cuntbags, but, you don't actually have many rights to download most stuff for free, do you?...doesn't really matter whether it's a blockbuster or an independent release.

the internet is fucked.

i bought "the road" on blu ray today (i don't buy a whole lot of movies) and as i stood holding the film in my hands, right as i was about to pop it in, i noticed how much crap there is on the cover, i mean, the whole thing is filled with review scores and reviewer quotes and little symbols like age recommendations or whatever, and the more i looked at it, the more it began to feel less like a work of art and more like a product that just shouted BUY ME! BUY ME!!

and then i put the disc in the player and there's a shitload of copyright/piracy warnings i have to sit through, and there wasn't even any english subs (i wanted subtitles because it was late and i watched it on really low volume), and i can't stand swedish subs since they always translate like morons, but it's a fucking blu ray damnit, they could fit subs in every damn language in existence on there, but no, just swedish, danish and whateverthefuck.

now, i like owning physical copies of films/music/etc i enjoy, but not when they look like shit, and im pretty sure it made me enjoy the film less than i did the first time i saw it (torrented).

look at it, i mean holy shit, enough already.
