Bvdub - Serenity

Though bvdub’s work is always firmly entrenched in the realm of memory, Serenity, his newest full-length, sees him reaching further back through his history than ever before while still gazing far beyond the horizon. His most (and possibly only) overtly optimistic work, Serenity is a story of elation and freedom from times when music didn’t yet know derision and arrogance... when all it knew was beauty. This is the soundtrack to 7am, when only the true remained and nothing else mattered.

While being more beat-driven than any bvdub album in the last five years, it is nevertheless still an ambient one. Its rhythms are memories of times past…

That sounds much more my kind of thing, good to see some beats. Sounds like something Donato Dozzy might mix at Labyrinth.

  • 3 months later...

being devoted follower and bvdub purist, i was bit disappointed with the use of rhythms in 'resistance is beautiful' even tho i do enjoy much of that release none-the-less. this sounds better in some ways, more attention to detail, maybe little cocteau twins'y at times which makes me harppy. just one note tho, plees mr bvdub, do not stray to far from your original sounds, pretty plees

I'm really enjoying this album, thinking it might be one of his best acchievements so far.

I like the way he keeps developing his sound in really small steps, in an "organic" way, so that the change is hardly noticeable from one album to another.

Although on this release there is one almost earth-shattering difference: there is suddenly a faint but very real vibe of hope and optimism to some of the songs on "Serenity". On tracks like this one (see link below) the effect is extremely touching, especially after his long long run of countless ultradark/ultrasad releases.

It's like suddenly beaming a clear ray of light into a very dark and very lonely place.

I loving this also. Best thing for me that he's done in a long time. Also the bonus disc ' dont say you know' is just as good
