Out February next year, on Hippos In Tanks. I'm pretty excited for this, their first two EPs are just awesome. Funky, creepy, minimal.

Hadn't heard of this, but I did hear the EP last year. This is what I had to say about it:

"One shit song, two mediocre ones, and one great one that sounds like Cabaret Voltaire at their most accessible (and best, IMO). Hopefully they'll go in the direction of "The Bridge" and not the others."

The videos above sound good, particularly "No Better" but that's on a different EP which I'll have to check out. All in all I think I'll add that album to my list of things to look into.

Actually, to be completely honest, I don't know if this album is going to be as good as their previous output.

You mention that you hated a couple of tracks on their "White Car" EP and yet loved one, and I'm kind of surprised because I think that most of their early stuff sounded pretty similar.

The "No Better" EP is absolute killer in my opinion. Very very funky and minimal. But then again, I've spoken to a couple of industrial guys and they seem really turned off by how much they jack the classic EBM sound and don't add much else. I don't know, maybe those well versed in EBM and electro won't find this appealing, but like I said I think the "No Better" EP is just plain cool.

If you want to investigate further, try that EP before anything else.

Just biked in to say this record is excellent, one of the better ones I've heard so far this year.

I've had this for a while, never really got into it as much as into the EPs. The EPs usually had at least two instant-hits that got stuck in your head and had a very poppy song-structure, but the album sort of went by like a big mash of indistinguishable sounds.

Only recently I started paying attention to the amount of detail on the album, and I gotta say they actually surpassed their EPs by far! I totally see how and why I was disappointed at first, because I wanted more of what I liked about the EPs, but in the end, this album is way more experimental and to be understood as a whole rather than as songs. The song structure is extremely nonlinear, they were really pushing it, it's so tongue-in-cheek (pitched voices and all) and somehow it still gets away with it.

The only downside would be the mastering I guess (if that even counts as mastering), it's a tad too watery on some of the tracks for my taste, hard to distinguish the individual elements from each other. They have proven on previous EPs that they can do it right. I just hate how a lot of electronic artists are choosing this path sooner or later, like Clark, or especially Prefuse 73, it's almost apologetic, like "I'm sorry my sounds are so clear and electronic, so I tried to make it more like a traditional instrument, you see?" - but fuck that, you're good at melodies and have a good taste in samples, so just show some balls and shove them in our face the way they are instead of diluting them so much!

Anyway, the reason I pushed this thread up is that I think this album deserves to be on a bunch of people's radar. Worth it for the closing track alone!
