Hi all,

I got an HSS3i (http://bleeplabs.com/hss3i/) for Christmas and I started making short experimental tracks with it, some got feedback already so I though I might share them here too :)

here's the link to the soundcloud set:

http://soundcloud.com/yan_g/sets/hss3i-mixes/

and another track that doesn't seem to appear in the list:

http://soundcloud.com/yan_g/hss3i-mix-09-an

Tell me what you think!

so how does that thing work exactly can you control it externally from midi? Does it just automatically make those cool video images as you play tones from it?

i'm really intrigued by the way it sounds

The MIDI in is used to control all 5 parameters (haven't tried so I don't know how the thing handles simultaneous MIDI data + pot twiddling), maybe it reads the clock signal too, I don't know.

My unit is damaged, it doesn't output video but normally the video is generated along with the sound. It can react to audio input too.

The second one is well nice and has quite a unique 'chip' sound - it's not quite the SID chip from the C64 nor the APU chip from the NES but sort of a hybrid of both qualities.

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

thanks. i assume you're talking about the second widget, the first one is a set, didn't think it would appear without the playlist so i'll add a couple more here. if you want to play them all you can go to my bandcamp as well: http://yann-g.net/album/hss3i

awesome! i love the second track in your first post, and the second track in your last post, which is more percussion-heavy. this is beautiful stuff.

Already commented on soundcloud, but yeah - great sounding, didn't expect that much character and versatility from such a diminutive synth... Gotta get me one of those.

thanks!

you always end up doing the same thing though. i've used it heavily in a short period of time, now i'm starting to block and fail at finding settings that are different from what i've already done with it. maybe that's just me though.

still a great addition to my studio!

this shit is awesome. I've always really wanted a Gijs synth, and now I want one more than ever.

it's addictive, beware! i'm thinking about getting the DEP-2a effect processor!

I like the second and the third one of your second post quite much (respectively for the beat and the atmosphere). I think these tracks are good examples of the cohesion you can obtain by using the less instruments possible (one, in this case, if I got it right)

i've been using a nebulophone and reason synths on some tracks.

latest addition:

http://soundcloud.com/yan_g/hss3i-mix-13-am-an-fx

it's got a Monotron processed through a DEP2a and a Nebulophone.

that one in progress has some additional beats & synths:

comments welcome, especially on the mix for "mix 13" and all sorts of suggestions for "seq 05"
