So i was talking to my mate today and he said he had been thinking of making music for quite some time, which i had been thinking about for a long time as well. I have always said one should start making music very early, since a kid if possible, because from this age, and i speak personally, because i have heard so much music, i already have so many influences and sounds in my head, that it would be really hard to abstract myself from all that and start making my own thing. Plus, studying architecture really doesn't leave that much time to explore any other thing. But he was so enthusiastic that i am now with this idea stuck in mind. We have virtually no experience. I remember messing with reason a couple of years ago just for the fun, but really can't remember anything now. My mate has a rolland which we could connect to the computer, but what software should we start using, and most important, how the hell should we start from anyway?

Watmm, help us noobs please!

És de onde?

Eu ajudo-te, gravamos uns peidos e arrotos, depois fazemos reverb e chamamos-lhe post-dubstep.

again, i don't really hate skrillex as much as i hate the people that think that sort of music has any sort of integrity. i try to be open minded, and a lot of the time i employ a "well, each to his/her own" attitude towards personal preferences such as music taste and who knows, maybe it is original in its own way, sorta like a drawing by an autistic kid.

get a cheap used acoustic guitar at a garage sale & start watching youtube video lessons for beginners. This same idea can work with any instrument.

I would jote down notes on what you plan to record. Once you start making music it will be hard to replicate, and you'll find sounds you didn't plan to make but might like. If there's any music production you really like, I'd find out the kind of equipment and methods used to make it. Could help a lot when you decide what software and even hardware to use.

^I'm messing with Reaper myself. Before this I messed around with Garageband and Rebirth. I really like it, many WATMMers use it.

just pick up where you left off.. reaper can be kind of daunting for beginners. and it's a good software, but I primarily use it for recording stuff.. reason is a good solid sequencer that won't distract you with plugins and millions of configurable options like reaper does.

get stuff you can record sound with, then get stuff you can make sound with, have fun.

ZOMG! Lazerz pew pew pew!!!!11!!1!!!!1!oneone!shift+one!~!!!

just get to it. don't overthink it, don't sit around and talk about it or try and come up with different approaches or techniques or ideas or whatever, just sit right the fuck down and start messing around with synths. no matter if it's reason or fl studio or some old roland. people always overthink these things, like "we gotta get this and that synth and i've been thinking of blablaablablah", fuck that shit, just sit down and do it. if you find it enjoyable enough, everything else will sort itself out later.

this is the money shot of the thread. wipe it off your lower back and then just do what it says.
