stockfish
Quote TouchOSC Bridge is a standalone tool application for Windows and Mac OS X that relays MIDI messages sent from TouchOSC to any MIDI capable application on your computer and vice versa. just noticed that this was released recently, makes setting up TouchOSC really easy, no other tools needed. works just like a standard midi controller now. never found a proper solution on windows, so yay :) http://hexler.net/software/touchosc Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/71031-touchosc-midi-bridge/ Share on other sites
mcbpete
Yeah I just saw an update on my phone for it yesterday, am yet to try it out properly (aside from making sliders go up and down on pure data I couldn't get osc to talk to any other application) so I cannae wait to give the midi bridge a go! Mmm, can't seem to get Ableton to 'listen' to the midi CCs sent by my device - I'll have to fiddle with the bastard tomorrow ... Guest ryanmcallister
it's been quite some time since i've used TouchOSC since I got rid of my iPad, but I was 99% sure I got CoreMidi working over wifi... I don't see the advantage to this on Mac OSX? edit to my edit: looks like this just bypasses setting up your network preferences on os X and maybe enables you to do midi over wifi which you maybe couldn't have done before on windows (don't know)? stockfish
yeah, it sets up a kind of midi driver which appears as a normal midi-device in your daw. i guess youre right that theres not that much of an advantage on mac, but on windows it was a bit of a hassle not having osculator or coremidi. @mcbpete: maybe you didnt enable remote control for the touchosc bridge device in abletons midi settings? mcbpete
I'll check it tonight, I'm sure it's just something simple like that - though I'm sure I had it turned in (It probably just needs a reboot) ryanmcallister - Yeah, it saves a few steps to get the TouchOsc app to talk to any non-Osc music apps Before the update the route the user had to take was the following: TouchOsc App -> PureData -> TouchOsc Pd Midi Patch -> MidiYoke -> DAW Now it's just: TouchOsc App -> TouchOsc MidiBridge -> DAW So it's just a bit simpler now .... sneaksta303
mcbpete, if you can figure out how to integrate it with Live, I'd love to hear the steps you took... Guest ryanmcallister
Android TouchOSC doesn't support midi at all. the OS doesn't have the capability to send midi over wifi yet, nor does it have the hardware to send midi out either. you'll have to stick to OSC sadly... or maybe not? It can send and receive Open Sound Control messages over a Wi-Fi network using the UDP protocol and can send and receive MIDI messages using the free TouchOSC Bridge application. There's no reason the OS couldn't do it before anyways. It's just an assortment of data packets sent over a wireless network so it wouldn't matter if it was sending MIDI packets or a picture of a laughing cat, at the end of the day it's just a collection 1s and 0s being transmitted and interpreted. And that's why the Midi-bridge was made to get around that shortcoming, now all DAWS supporting MIDI will be able to use it. Oh cool! I actually missed this part, I kinda wrote off TouchOSC for Android a while back and was just considering TouchOSC Bridge for my ipod/imac rig. That's actually pretty cool that I can use it on my Galaxy S2 now as well (sending midi i mean). You are right about the 2nd part too, just regurgitating what I had heard about it being impossible on the Android, but makes sense, they just needed something on the receiving end (which we now have).
