Tessier Ashpool
Ok - so, I'm a Reaper convert, with the one caveat being that I am severely crestfallen at the lack of a Midi Drum Editor like that of Digital Performer, which allows you to enter both note and velocity at the same time. Like : which makes you able to do Recently found out that you can use an external midi editor for Reaper, so been scouring the interwebs to find a simple, midi drum editor that allows this. I haven't found jack shit, so I'm not even expecting a reply, but if anyone knows a simple, free, midi editor that can do this, PLEASE clue me in. Thanks ya'll, happy music making! foresense
I think you can change the way REAPER behaves in such a way that it is (almost?) exactly like the drum editor you refered to..... check in REAPER preferences somewhere.. I once had it setup to behave just like Reason and it worked pretty good. I noticed there are also options to draw in notes and velocity at the same time. that and you also have the option to change the display mode of the midi data. okay quick check, it's at Editing Behavior->Mouse Modifiers then Midi note context left click/left drag or double click.. have a look. in the midi row you can hide unused note rows and press alt-5/6/7 and you can switch between display types. AAAAh
for what it is worth i use ERA step sequence(not free) for drums in reaper . Then add an instance of a plugin called MIDItoReaControlPath wich allows the cc frum era to control your drum synth or whatever. its a bit crap but it works. reaper would be 100x more accesable for beginner electronic producers if it had a decent native drum sequencer imo.
