I had this really shitty RCA purple jambox back in 92 and that era, I was 13, I'd listen to KJMZ 100.3 Jamz in Dallas, and make mixtapes off the top 9 at nine. I was on spotify today trying to make a tribute to that time, and I realized there were some real rap gems from 92...fuckin.... like:

mind playin tricks on me by the geto boys

like... "everything's gonna be alright" by naughty by nature and shit

hell yeah, the entire Chronic album

sucks that "187 on an Undercover Cop" off the Deep Cover Soundtrack isn't on spotify... that shit was groundbreaking, dre and snoop together for the first time

Just Lyke Compton by DJ Quick

In the Trunk -- Too Short

Black Sheep, Home Team, Cypress Hill, House of Pain, Cube

FUCKIN A, "BACK TO THE HOTEL" By N2DEEP lol.

and my personal favorite, "Gangsta Lean" By D.R.C.

awwwww yeah mothafukkas FOR REAL

shitttt

SHIT

I was 18 in 92, listened to:

Beastie Boys - Paul's Boutique and Check Your Head got heavy rotation.

Pearl Jam - Ten was a great album. fuck you if you disagree

Schoolly D - first heard him on college radio (CJSR represent) in like 88...Gangster Boogie 2 (if you want a laugh, listen to his classic from 89 - "Pussy Ain't Nothin') But check this from 84

Ice-T: yes he wasn't always a cop on TV. (Check out his track "Fried Chicken" lol)

And I was still stuck in some industrial shit like Ministry and all those spin-offs like 1000 Homo DJs, RevCo and so on

Skinny Puppy

Butthole Surfers

and a variety of early electronic (techno?house? non-experimental really) stuff like

The KLF

Speedy J

MARRS

Aphex although I wasn't quite always aware of it lol

Orbital

etc etc

Much like Jules - I drove a van - pretty much exactly like this

1977cc.jpg

It had a chain link steering wheel and a bed in the back.

My girlfriend's aunt gave it to me.

I was thirteen at the time. Can't remember exactly what I was listening to back then but Ultima Underworld came out that year and I remember that while playing it I listened to at least this which was on some compilation tape:

I was 11 or 12 years old. This was probably the first year I started searching out music. Until then it was strictly radio or whatever my parents were listening to.

This song got me to buy one of my first full length albums.

It was also probably the beginning of most of my exposure to new music being through music videos, in the early days of 'The Box'.

In the '92, I was 12 and I stayed holed up in my room all day and night with a dual-cassette boom box, a karaoke machine, a casio keyboard and MTV. I discovered the "pause button" technique of cassette cut and paste and was excited to learn that Ae was doing the same thing around that time. I found some of those tapes and transferred them to .mp3 recently. The titles pretty much say it all. The more things change, the more they stay the same. I'm still into the same stuff: FM synthesis, bodily functions, cursing and rap music

These are all wonderful

Remember those 90min cassettes would just about fit an album on each side, my fondest one from around that time had Guns 'n roses one side and Deep Forest on the other
