Mellow U
Finally got a chance to sit down and listen to this. Here are my thoughts: 1. Singulier Dimanche - Really like the sort of detuned, aching sounding pads that run through this one. The way the three note bass part almost awkwardly climbs around the rest of the skeletal rhythm reminds me of Oversteps. Digging the small fills on the really scattered beat once it comes into more prominence in the mix. 2. Atroce Presence - A spooky start here. Once again a nice palette of detuned pads and filtered metallic beat work. This time the synth swoons remind me of early Ten and Tracer, which is also cool. Hats doing a nice little sad shuffle before picking it up a bit. 3. Mollusque Comme - Heavier bass in this one. The metallic bits here and there are a nice touch to this, atmospherically. Once the fat kick comes in it holds a really swank groove before spattering out into ambience again. 4. Motif 32 - The pads here sound mutant, irradiated somehow. There's a nice underlying dissonance to this one. The melodic part that opens up about 2 minutes in is lovely. Almost reminiscent of Bochum Welt. A lush way to end the EP. Altogether I enjoyed this little jaunt through very organic electronic atmospheres. Organic is a word that gets thrown around a lot with electronic music, but here it truly applies. Everything seems to be in motion, growing, all the time, almost to the point that sections of the songs that you'd expect to follow a more predictable compositional path just fizzled out like bubbles in a pool. A really fresh listen. Thanks Mathieu!
