Nord has released a drum module... Very underwhelming though... 4 sounds, no individual outputs, and what looks to be an annoying editing scheme. 400 pounds seems pretty damn high for such a limited thing.

Another Clavia let down. What a waste of a company.

looks more like a portable performance instrument to accompany a larger live setup like their keyboard range rather than a dedicated drum synth as such but saying that Nord have already covered this area with the 2, 2X and the modulars which Autechre have already used to death.

it's invitation only but it's not too hard to get one.

i stay away from those conventions like the plague because i already have such a high degree of gear lust, i don't see how going to one of those won't just increase it.

Plus what tools does one 'absolutely' need that isn't out already? Software is at a standstill in terms of technology development, struggling to emulate every piece of analog synth ever.

Yeah I hear you. This MAY end up being cool though:

id be shocked if that ended up sounding even 1/2 as good as the Kyma spectral morphing feature, but ill keep an open mind.

Dynamic impulse response engines definitely seem like the future of software. I know they already can sound really convincing with more fine tuning and advancement sound design and emulation will be much easier and more accurate.

what are some examples of this technology? I'm not really familiar with it, is it something kind of like what Vocaloid does? where it's using 'spectral fingerprints' kind of to synthesis sound from scratch

Yeah, I'm just reffering to the recent beginning of dynamic convolution engines like Acustica Nebula 3 (Which was reportedly buggy and brutally CPU intensive) that used impulse responses of all sorts of audio gear etc. I believe Axe-FX (which is regarded as the best digital guitar rig modeling) primarily uses convolution. I saw in Sweetwater's mag that there's a new rackmount rig that lets you make your own impulse responses of amps to store and use on the unit. etc. etc. etc. Everyone knows how realistic static convolution reverbs sound, it was kind of mind blowing the first I saw the potential in uses lots of them dynamically to emulate and combine all sorts of different things like the Galaxy X is trying to do.

With the ridiculous amounts of work that go into things like Universal Audio's emulations of analog units by modeling each transistor it makes sense that the ease and accuracy of dynamic convolution is the future. I guess the biggest hurdle for a while was just optimization and hardware power. I doubt that will be much of a problem for software developers anymore.

I work for a distribution company of professional audio and lighting equipment in Canada. We are exclusive distributors of Denon DJ, Allen and Heath, Ableton, KRK, KORG, Chauvet Lighting, Martin Professional, Turbosound and so forth.

I'm a junior product manager there.

BTW, Europe has Prolight and Sound in Frankfurt in March - might be going there too

Sweet dude! Any chance you can get a fellow watmmer, canadian, and former 25-key midi controller mentor a deal on some of the aforementioned gear?
