Analogue Bubblebath 4 CD reissue

Recommended Posts

Nobody needed it but there it is: a reissue of AB4, on CD. Cuckoo is one of my most played, if not my most played track by RDJ. The rest is pretty shit tho imo

Is this a re-release? AB4 was reissued awhile back, finally in a jewel case rather than the original cardboard sleeve...

A long awaited repress of the fourth installment from this excellent Analogue Bubblebath series on Rephlex in the early 90's. With four animal named tracks plus an extra bonus track, it varies from Aphex's extreme brain-crunching dance floor slayers, to his warm and pointillist electronics. It goes without saying this is a must for your Richard D. James collection.

"Four animal-named tracks"? I thought the tracks were all untitled, and the names given to them were just fan-created ones, not official ones...

Rather unimpressed by AB4. The first track is a real banger but for the rest- well, AFX has done it better before and after it. "A must have"? no not really. Better take the first AB1 and the Classics and you can imagine a different Aphex aside from his ambient works.

I really like repetitive and minimal stuff, but AB4 is too boring in his parts. Wondering why AFX never made a re-make of this work. Would be nice to hear it screwed with his magic effect suit.

On the original, as well as the reissue (the one I have) the tracks are listed as 'untitled', and not the fan-names...

Trough I've got, Rushup Edge is a must though....... I refuse to pay the silly money it goes for!

Rephlex you can make the cash back, there is a demand for the records! get it done!

I'm surprised that The Tuss stuff is selling for such daft prices. It didn't exactly seem to slip under the radar at the time so I'd have thought all of the RDJ-cock-slavering fanboys and interested people would've hoovered it up back when it came out.

i think that's the point...it got snapped up, and there was obviously a fairly limited run. don't think there's been a repress.

What's the point of re-releasing this on CD with missing tracks? It wasn't exactly limited or hard to get hold of in the first place was it. AB5 yes but this?! Seriously Warp wtf?! And while on the subject (as discussed on the SAWII thread) give us some vinyl re-releases for a change god damn it!!

lol.

The people at Bleep writes that Rephlex has included a bonus track, so it may be interesting after all. But the email says that there are four tracks with animal names plus one extra, so there is probably nothing new included. At any rate, I don't think the (3 tracks) track list at Bleep is complete. The fact that they list user made track names not only shows that they haven't done their homework properly, but also implies that someone over there may be pirating music :cerious: .

I also thought in the first place that they put out an expanded version of it. It seems that Knievel is described as a bonus track but to be honest: 27 sec. of distorted interview snipping isn't a real bonus "banger" here.

Some other label is reissuing SAW II and warp are reissuing a CD.

What the fuck, warp?

Actually picked up the 12" recently, which was worth it for the insert sheet alone.

Also I don't get the hate on this EP - Elephant Song and Gibbon are obviously the weakest because of the repetitions, but they're even less repetitive than Quoth, which I also like. Cuckoo and Sloth are two of RDJ's finest moments, in my opinion.

huh? this was a rephlex rerelease yeah? Just picked it up (the 2011 version.) weird. I thought Rephlex did nothing in '11 apart from Zwischenwelt and Dave Monolith? Maybe Dwayne Omar too? and this? So peculiar.

Its fair to say I don't really 'get' Rephlex records. Its all a bit peculier.

Know what I mean, Jellybean?
