Your scores have been cited by a lot of modern synth/ noise/ underground bands as a huge influence. Are you aware of this? What do you think of the resurgence in interest in your scores, as well as those of Goblin or Vangelis? Is it a case of people catching on belatedly to the innovations you spear-headed?

JC: I'm flattered by this. But there are also tribute bands to the scores from Sonic the Hedgehog and Mega Man video games so I try to keep this stuff in perspective

lol. the guy is pretty candid and seems really down to earth.

JC: I composed the score for my first film Dark Star because I was cheap and fast. I talked to a couple of other composers but they all seemed weird. One guy had glitter all over him. Not that wearing glitter is a bad thing... it just didn't inspire confidence.

lol

clearly he's never actually sat down and listened to any megaman 2 ost

from the guy who made this song, he would love proper megaman music

dont you even dare disparage carpenter soundtracks based on that video. which is a classic btw.

i know people criticize that film and score for being culturally insensitive but im willing to debate that bullshit until my dying day. one of my favorite films and pieces of music.

Some songs I made with my fingers and electronics. In the process of making some more. Hopefully.

the beauty and simplicity of the 'assault on precinct 13' soundtrack is something ive copied many times over in my own musical efforts.

Few greater soundtracks exist, to my mind. And created in a day...!

good interview but

A lot of people think your film scores sound "simple", in terms of composition, but the theme for Halloween, for example, is in 5/4 time, so far from it!

is kinda stoopid. 5/4 implies complex? nope.

this sounds like an airplane landing on a minefield

actually also he talks about ghosts of mars but the majority of that score was written and performed by a mishmash of metal bands (slayer most prominently) iirc.
