to me, that was their last record, and i kind of wish it was. in rainbows and king of limbs feels like a new project to me. hail to the thief was also their last contractual obligation, and i wonder how much that had to do with the music, if at all

anyone else feel this way?

im lovin the new stuff - just not the same way

It was Coney Island, they called Coney Island the playground of the world.

There was no place like it, in the whole world, like Coney Island when I was a youngster.

No place in the world like it, and it was so fabulous. Now it's shrunk down to almost nothing...you see.

And, uh, I still remember in my mind how things used to be, and...uh, you know, I feel very bad.

But people from all over the world came here...from all over the world...it was the playground they called it the playground of the world...over here.

Anyways, you see, I...uh...you know...I even got, when I was very small, I even got lost at Coney Island, but they found me...on the...on the beach.

And we used to sleep on the beach here, sleep overnight..they don't do that anymore. Things changed...you see.

They don't sleep anymore on the beach.

lol

how does it feel different? please elaborate.

i think in rainbows is one of their best records. as far as I'm concerned they haven't stopped pushing themselves and that's what it sounds like. in fact, all of radiohead sounds pretty fuckin radiohead to me.

wierd. httt and in rainbows always felt like the same kind of re-hash of okc/kid a to me. tkol is different, i guess, but at least it's not the same moaning pop-rock with occasional glitch to make it feel cutting edge.

I still have a hard time with king of limbs but in rainbows and hail to the thief are their best releases and close to my favorite of all time releases

I fell out with Radiohead from Amnesiac until KOL. I just grew tired of them, but I don't blame them for that, it was me and my changing direction with music. KOL is just a beautiful record that I love. I hear voices of discocontent with KOL but I don't care. There were voices of discontent with KID A, there were voices of discontent with Hail to the Theif. And so on...

Radiohead are without doubt a national music treasure, we should be thankful they exist instead of slagging them off. Not many bands straddle the mainstream and the leftfield like they do.

I can't be arsed to go on about it. But respect is due. Their last record,Staircase is below, to me it's an astounding record. Yorkes voice is getting better with age. Love them!

And you know it!

I agree, beerwolf. I don't listen to Radiohead that much these days, but I think it is wonderful a band so popular can also be so musically interesting and so willing to experiment. It's a great thing they exist, and they are a rare breed.

Glad it's not just me Squire. Elegantly beautiful (the track, not you mr Caretstik  )

The biggest thing that bothered me about TKOL was that it sounded like Thom's musical interests and that's it. Make it sound like it was made entirely on a laptop. It defeats the purpose of working with a full band, IMO. Some of the drum sounds on the last two albums really bug me, (Weird Fishes wat) and usually nothing bugs me.

All in all, Radiohead is Radiohead. And they made The Bends and OK Computer and Kid A/Amnesiac/HTTT. In Rainbows is a highly refined batch of pretty ditties. You can't fuck with that. Unfuckwithable.

Their sound kinda changed with In Rainbows, a little bit more thin, don't like the laptop-ish sound either tbh, but they still make gems sometimes

they sound and feel totally different in each album. This is a thing people admire about them. I don't understand the discussion.

ZOMG! Lazerz pew pew pew!!!!11!!1!!!!1!oneone!shift+one!~!!!
