plugging laptop into tv question

i just tried right now and it works quite good using a monitor cable.

my laptop is hi def and my television is 720

 

so question, my tv also has a hdmi port as well as my laptop, will the resolution look that much better?

should i buy an hdmi cable ?

I think VGA will do just as good as HDMI. It's gonna max your TV resolution either way.

 

The nice thing about HDMI is that you don't need a separate cable for sound.

that just sold me.

i dont remember the exact limitations of regular monitor cable but i know there are pretty much none with hdmi cable, it can also transfer sound and it's easier to set up with it cause it's all digital. it's the best choice for full high defenition experience.

Sure but remember, an hdmi cable is an hdmi cable. Don't spend more than 5-10 bucks on one.

they seem to be like 40 bucks everywhere, the source sells them for less though.

go to newegg.ca - you'll have to put up with their bullshit shipping fees, but it's still cheaper. Are you in victoria or vancouver, i can never remember.

Buying cheap HDMI cables is definitely the way to go, but just keep in mind the HDMI specs have changed a bit over the years. Some of the older/lower spec stuff can't handle 1080p and uncompressed audio very well.

 

That in no way means you should by anything labeled "monster."
