Unreleased material from SAW II?

Do we know around how many tracks he produced for this, or any quotes of his regarding the album other than his normal description that's used all the time?

 

On (28 mix) got me thinking about this. What if the 28 implies its number at the recording session? How much could exist that we haven't heard? There seems to be a handful of people out there that know of the unreleased Caustic Window material, so I'm hoping the same can be found of this album.

 

P.S. off topic but anything about Surfing on Sine Waves would be excellent as well.

Try Brian Eno's Discreet Music for the original half hour version of essentially the same track.

Oh yes, I prefer [Lichen], primarily because it was actually written rather than comprised of tape loops drifting in and out of phase, as is Eno's custom... But I find it interesting that it somewhat insinuates it could have been a starting point for the album, to emulate a specific Eno track, and then branch off in all these interesting other directions, arguably overtaking the original it was originally partially based on. (Which I guess it ought to, otherwise what's the point?) That's just a guess, though.

It's widely rumoured that the 28Mix of On is indeed a SAW II outtake; Richard had a habit of 'recycling' outtakes that didn't make the cut for a release as remixes. Considering how many variations of Ventolin there are (released and unreleased), I'd say that he probably has quite a few variations of released tracks.

Most likely, yes. I remember back on joyrex.com (around the 3rd version of it) I had a flash audio player that would play the 28mix and D-Scape, and everyone thought they were from SAW II.

 

Richard also famously took two tracks at random from a tape labeled 'Polygon Window' and submitted them as the additional tracks on the 2000 reissue of Surfing on Sine Waves.

Grape Drank is well known for having corrosive effects on recordings of drum machines
