Ricky Gervais on the Daily Show

Recommended Posts

Some of the funniest shit I've seen on the Daily Show in a long while. I dunno, it was just totally surreal. Maybe it's cause I'm not saturated with gervais like some people seem to complain - I haven't seen his hosting of awards shows (was it the oscars? golden globes?), only saw a few of the gervais talking to other comedians bits...

Anyways - yeah. fucking hilarious on the daily show on valentine's day.

I dunno if it's possible to embed, but anyways, USamericans can obviously check it out on comedycentral.com while us up here in canadia can check it out on comedynetwork.ca

Rest of world... (do the pirate thing... seriously fuck em if they won't make it available in your region).

Also the coverage of the differences between Time (the magazine) international covers and US covers was pretty ridiculous.

Because you had expectations.

again, i don't really hate skrillex as much as i hate the people that think that sort of music has any sort of integrity. i try to be open minded, and a lot of the time i employ a "well, each to his/her own" attitude towards personal preferences such as music taste and who knows, maybe it is original in its own way, sorta like a drawing by an autistic kid.

I thought it was hilarious yet when I linked it to my friend he was like "he totally stole this from Mike Birbiglia." I personally don't care, but does anyone else know about that? You think panda porn jokes wouldn't be that freqently used, but I dunno...

Sorry Joseph - you're probably young and hip, I'm just an old codger, so my level of humour probably is outdated.

joshua - seems like that Mike Birbiglia guy has a few clips on youtube - including one referencing panda porn. I don't really want to watch it with my daughter around lol.

Just watched a short clip actually Joshua - pretty blatant rip-off. That's a bit embarrassing for Gervais - comedians shouldn't be ripping off other people's jokes.

people have been doing panda sex jokes forever. robin williams did it in 2002 on his live on broadway set.

that being said, i wonder how much of gervais' comedy is improvised? i hope the exchange between him and jon wasn't scripted--that would make it trashy, imo.

didnt find this funny at all

i concur, but just because most of the segment was them laughing at each other.. not so much doing or saying funny things (yes panda pr0n is funny), just laughing at each other. i did like jon's pun about black eyes though :emotawesomepm9:

Rick Gervais has already travelled heavily into the 'i phone it in' land. Since Extras went off the air this is how i've felt

Yeah, he planned it out obviously. It was still funny, though I feel it makes the whole thing a bit tainted, now people calling it genius look a bit silly. I think he figured the Daily Show would be the best place to use the material (it's achived online, on a cable network, etc).

I think a bit of it is normally, but he clearly lead with the topic here, so he planned a least a couple jokes. I doubt it was scripted - I hope it wasn't as well because that would be lame. But I've seen other clips of him, including a more "formal" interview on the original Office DVD set, and there was a part where he described David Brent being someone "who just wants to be your mate;" Then he paused, perhaps realized Americans would find that phrasing confusing and then said "not your sexual mate!" My dad had just starting drinking something and spat it out and started laughing hysterically. So yeah, I think he can be quite a good improv comic.
