I'm kinda done with Grime its mostly played out bragging and boasting testerone fulled garbage. I honestly just don't have time for it anymore. 99% have nothing to say except some junk about the size of their dick or other rubbish lol. There are certainly some MCs I rate technically but I'm more interested in them having something positive or meaningful to say. If you guys don't agree then fair enough but I'm just kinda bored with it.

I'm kinda feeling Shorty quite a bit 'cause he has something to say.

I'm not a major fan of Wretch 32 but I like what he has to say in his rhymes. This tune is definitely his best.

"Grime" was dead after Rephlex misnamed their famous compilations 'Grime' instead of "Dubstep". After I found out what "Grime" was and being from America where we call "Grime", "Rap" and also being a fan of good "Rap", like Wutang, etc. I, as a true American, could not get into "Grime". I even saw Dizzee Rascal is concert, he is the closest I have to come to actually liking "Grime". The show did nothing for me and now I am going to go erase all "Grime" from my harddrive. Thanks for the reminder Promobro!

Actually Dizzy I oddly don't mind lol and of course he's been in the game for time. I'm just kinda bored of the whole SB.TV thing especially with every other mc basically saying the same thing in a different accent for their 64 bars. Its mainly all bravado and really little or no substance. To be fair I think the Rephlex Grime compilation was I guess the best description for it at the time as it wasn't really dubstep as we kinda know it now. Also I think when Grime came about in the early 00s for me it was definitely a breath of fresh air and I was hooked on the rhythms and vibe.

While I liked Dizzee, Wiley, and Lady Sovereign when they first got hyped I totally get your apathy. I dunno, beyond 2006 I really stopped paying attention and got into dubstep instead. I like more experimental stuff Grime MCs are involved with: The Bug, some Virus Syndicate, Terror Danjah, etc. I tried following grime on pitchfork's now defunct grime/dubstep column to no avail. I literally downloaded a radio DJ mix once that was the same track with a bunch of MCs rapping in patois I didn't fucking understand a word of.

Grime and similar movements overseas - stuff like Kwaito in South Africa for example, are often more interesting to read about than actually listen to. They usually use instrumentals I find kinda bland or mediocre. They don't have much appeal to those not very directly involved - same sounds, silly MC battles, recycled dubplates, lots of presets, etc. For instance I heard some cool African hip-hop in a mix Ghislain Poirer did 5 years or so but that seemed to be the cream of the crop - even the African hip-hop compilation Adult Swim did was very forgettable. I suppose dancehall is the same way now too - I don't find it as interesting as 80s output nor as sonically great as dub.

I'm guessing the Rephlex "Grime" mistake also had to do with the fact that there were Grime producers dabbling in dark garage/2-step and what became dubstep: Plastician, MRK1, etc. Maybe?

If you're bored with grime, try getting into some US hip-hop, not like top40 raps but legitimate hip hop. Look into stuff on labels like Rhymesayers and the now defunct Definitive Jux, also some of the classics... probably some stuff you'll like amongst all that.

Stones Throw is up there too. Then's there is all that Odd Future output - it's dark if that's relevant to your liking of grime before recently

Not sure what grime is and to be honest i dont want to know, the name itself gives me an indication that the genre is not my cup of tea.

My comment in this thread will be about music genre branding and how i wish it will all be over by now. This attitude of associating yourself with a genre is blinding musicians and eventually damaging their final product, you cannot go into a studio or computer thinking to yourself "i'm going to make grime or i'm going to make dubstep or i'm going to make blues", thinking in genres restricts your creative output.

Now maybe most artists are not that creative or good so the only way for them to make music is to follow a blueprint already perfected by others but i've seen so many talented artists fall in the trap of making music for a genre rather than making whatever comes to mind.

In an ideal world musicians should do whatever come to mind and give an honest artistic output, i get that it takes time to find your thing but i feel artists will find their thing much faster if they stop taking the easy way out in making music thats already been done a 1,000 times (dub techno for example). Hell maybe your final product will fall into the genre you initially wanted to be but it will feel more honest, more organic and people see tru that.

Never quite got into grime, don't know why, but there's definitely some fat tracks out there. Oh wait I do know why, it's them rappers. Most of them are just not that good.

Some songs I made with my fingers and electronics. In the process of making some more. Hopefully.
