I'm getting one the moment it becomes a product. One of my personal pet peeves about having to be in public spaces where it's generally understood to keep quiet.

When I was a brief commuter, I used headphones!

That's my go-to solution as well, but sometimes I don't want to listen to music, or worse, you can still hear them over your music despite the headphones!

The method to defeat this amazing high-tech weapon has already been discovered.

fucking yes. and people who talk loudly through their cell phones as well. shut the fuck up world, i'm trying to read / think / listen to music.

headphones are not always a solution as i'm not really into the idea of cranking everything up to ridiculous levels.

If anyone remembers, we had that little discussion about technology isolating us from our surroundings - well this is ultimately much worse. How uncivilized have we become that we can't ask someone to be quiet politely, but must resort to this.

Rather pointless if you can't used it against a pack of youths at the cinema or anywhere else where silence is wanted.

I liken this to those cell phone blockers/jammers that got outlawed awhile back - how wonderful it must be to see some asshat loudly talking on his phone in a quiet place (or a place clearly where etiquette dictates hushed tones and avoiding taking phone calls), and flipping the switch on one of those babies and watch their face screw up in confusion as their call drops and they can't dial back...

Guest cult fiction

Does this really work? I record speech all the time played back live via headphones or monitors with latencies within the specified range of 4-195ms, and have never experienced anything like this.

Past studies relating to the improvement of stuttering using DAF at various delay D settings (between 0.004[sec] and 0.195[sec]) have been previously summarized [5]. From the summary it can be observed that stuttering improves relative to the size of the D

Or of course, you could always just ask them to be quiet politely, if that fails ask management to remove them.

I've had to ask people to be quiet in lectures, it's not a big deal, and they've always realized it's not cool to be talking at the time.

edit: no yek, it's not a cell-phone jammer.

The basics are, it's a recorder, with a unidirectional amplifier that plays back what the person said with a short delay. The theory being that when you hear yourself, you'll stop talking (hasn't worked on politicians). It's called delayed auditory feedback.

I feel like this should have a tazer attachment for when the person you are trying to mute gets angry and assaults you.

again, i don't really hate skrillex as much as i hate the people that think that sort of music has any sort of integrity. i try to be open minded, and a lot of the time i employ a "well, each to his/her own" attitude towards personal preferences such as music taste and who knows, maybe it is original in its own way, sorta like a drawing by an autistic kid.
