if it's real i reckon is more 2001 relevance than ligeti.

nope. didn't hear a single bit.

Skrillex, your ears dont work. You been listening to too many drops.

  Reveal hidden contents

I've wondered the same thing myself, probably is. There's a vocal mixed super low @ 2:15, you can hear faintly if you play it loud.

The one time I took salvia was with Happy Cycling playing in the background. Everything started to give off visual vibrations, then I sank back into another dimension that was my actual existence. Because of the bird samples though, everything was cartoonish and the big "reveal" was that everyone on Earth was actually a bird creature, chickens to be specific. After the song faded out, my friend's iTunes played a random hip-hop track and immediately I saw a giant baseball bat smashing the shit out of the floor and producing bright strobe light flashes, prompting me to freak out a bit. I tried frantically writing down what I experienced but as it wore off I realized it didn't make much sense.

maybe the Ligeti copyright lawyers can get a sign of life out of them?

hah!

though speaking of...

  Quote

Robert C. Cumbow's article on the music tells us how György Ligeti "took successful legal action for the unauthorized modification of his music", particularly concerning the electronically treated excerpts from Ligeti's Adventures.

As a matter of fact, Ligeti never got as far as to the court with his case. The story is this: Ligeti met a friend, who'd seen "2001:A Space Odyssey". The friend commented on the use of Ligeti's music in the film - much to Ligeti's surprise: he had not seen it himself. What is more, Kubrick had never asked permission to use Ligeti's compositions. His lawyer contacted MGM, claiming that the use of Ligeti's music was illegal - MGM replied that Ligeti had every right to complain, but since all of the legal business was taken care of by an English agency, a lawsuit should be addressed to the people in England. This was the beginning of a lengthy correspondence proving that Ligeti had a case, but that a judicial process would be long and costly. Finally Ligeti decided not to go to court. An agreement was made with Kubrick's management securing the composer a compensation - probably a lot less than what he was entitled to, yet still more than what was the first intention of Kubrick and MGM.

I'm curious what Ligeti would of thought of "Happy Cycling." Same with Chopin if he heard the Tomita version of "Clair De Lune"

Nice, forgot about that track. Need to listen to Autechre more.

So now I'm really curious. I forgot that the other theory was that the choir sample was from the movie Jesus Christ Superstar, which is arguably as BoC-ish as Space Odyssey. They mention it as a favorite film here. Bocpages mentions it of course, and there's an old watmm thread about it here.

Also, someone claims they found the percussion source in a pink floyd song, possibly just a coincidence or interpolated but still cool...

The JCSS choir is probably/definitely an arrangement of Requiem or Lux Aeterna, so it's hard to pinpoint a source.

I hear a bit more Lux Aeterna than Requiem in D-Sho, but Ae has worked over the sample, so maybe not
