censorship speech hidden in videogame code.

Recommended Posts

Long story short. Was reading this: http://www.cracked.com/article_19745_the-5-ballsiest-easter-eggs-hidden-in-video-games_p2.html about hidden easter eggs in videogames. The last bit is about pissed off programmers hiding text messages in the code, and ended up here: http://home.comcast.net/~zphreak/Tetris.txt which includes the following bit:

Now that the show is over and we have jointly excersized our

constitutional rights we would like to leave you with one very

important thought. Sometime in the future you may have the

opportunity to serve as a juror in a censorship case or a so

called obscenity case. It would be wise to remember that the same

people would stop you from listening to Boards of Canada may be

back next jury to complain about a book or even a T.V. program.

If you could be told what you can see or read then it follows that

you can be told what to say or think. Defend your

constitutionally protected rights. No one else will do it for

you. Thank you.

Some songs I made with my fingers and electronics. In the process of making some more. Hopefully.

So the programmers of Comcast's TV version of Tetris are BoC fans. Cool.

Just to be clear, the original speech (which can be heard on BoC Maxima, unaltered - at least the 'Boards of Canada' bit) was originally taken from an adult video VHS cassette (probably a Rodox video production). BoC added in the music.

It was the N64's "New Tetris" or whatever, made by H2O, which is/was in Vancouver, CA.

Funny how the music in the background to the speech is Abercrombie's Timeless, which BoC are supposed to have sampled on Everything You Do Is A Balloon.

Shout outs to the saracens, musulmen and celestials.

"CA" is used in sports events to denote Canada on scoreboards and there also exists the ".ca" suffix to Canadian domains.

Nice find!

Read that article and that rant as well. It was pretty entertaining.

And Joyrex, the guy states "Boards of Canada" in the rant. He doesn't quote the BOC Maxima version. So he was, indeed, referring to the BOC boys.

Edit: Wut?

He was making it even more specific that the one in the video game code was the MHTRTC version (that says "Boards of Canada" instead of "pornographic film") and not the BoC Maxima version.

That's what I had thought, but I did state that it wasn't the BOC Maxima quote.
