don't use macs but i support around 150 of them.... most of them have been off for the past week and will be unused next week too so i have time to try out some remote upgrade sotutions

theres a description of how to manualy remove it

Infection Type 2

In cases where the user did not input their administrator password, the malware checks if the following path exists in the system:

  • /Applications/Microsoft Word.app
  • /Applications/Microsoft Office 2008
  • /Applications/Microsoft Office 2011
  • /Applications/Skype.app

If any of these are found, the malware again skips the rest of its routine and proceeds to delete itself, presumably to avoid infecting a system that has an incompatible application installed.

so does that mean that having microsoft software on your Mac will actually stop it from borking? flol

lol Microsoft black ops

I have a hard time trusting numbers of an anti-virus vendor.

If Apple takes 8 weeks to close every Java exploit there's bound to be more trouble though...

we support about 100 macs here, haven't had any reports of this

most of our users are students, so we don't get reports till shits well and truly fucked....

although we do have office 2011 installed and no users have admin passwords so im hoping things will be fine

i'll check out the updates on my test box and see how things look anyway

yeah, seriously pro trolling here by the people who made the malware. unless it's microsoft, in which case it would still be hilarious (not that I am pro-microsoft, but software companies infecting people who don't use their software is pretty pro.)

'macs don't get viruses' is not true

but what is true is get a 70 year old person a Windows 7 laptop, and a Mac OSX laptop. I guarantee you in time lapse race, the Windows 7 laptop will be completely unusable in 4 months time from spyware, the mac, fresh as the day you got it.

maybe people will stop fucking saying "macs can't get viruses" now when arguing pro-apple

Is trojan, no virus. But only idiots use that argument anyways.

This is a bizarre trojan though - any sort of anti-virus sofware, or even anything like Little Snitch - which reports what's going in and out - it uninstalls itself. WTF?

Good thing I'm not a 70 year old computer noob and I can enjoy custom built PCs for a third of the price.

Not trying to start debate here or anything, just saying

maybe it's trying to go undetected and take the path of least resistance?

this is curious because I have all the listed microsoft applications and little snitch and yet my itunes and chrome have just crashed FAR FAR FAR more than usual. itunes actually wont quit without it crashing

I'm sorry, I really wish I didn't think Macs are so over priced and over rated, I wish the majority their pompous stuck up uber fans didn't cause the mere mentioning of the word Apple to make me cringe. I wish for world peace.

EDIT: I also wish for sex with Maura Davis of Denali.

Yeah I mean, OSX is a decent operating system, and I have nothing against all the people who use it for creative stuff, or the people who use macbooks because it's convenient and they are normal people and not desktop nerds.

that said, fuck apple, and fuck diehard apple fans. fuck them hundreds and hundreds of times.

I'm currently conceptualizing a Domain Specific Modeling toolkit mainly based on a metalanguage, rules and a set of metaprotocols.

This project is very close to Wittgenstein's philosophy in that everything is considered as a fact, even the act of compilation itself (the way the code compiles, ie the way my metacompiler translates my metalanguage into actual code, can be customized).

I consider this metalanguage to be the universal programming language ... until you start writing actual statements with it.

THis language is meant to be self-describing (a literal language), so when you haven't written anything, all the possibilities are open. As soon as you start writing code and defining your DSL(s), you narrow down the possibilities.

"Whereof one cannot speak, thereof one must be silent." heh !

I guess I'll require the coder to begin a DSL (domain specific language) with something like "God !" or "The universe !".

Anyway, it should allow the programmer to write things like

Rule to execute the action of doing some long calculation:

------ execute this action on the X23R5 remote machine instead.

So i'm considering setting up a botnet one day. Eventually.
