No point in your dumbass question. Something like this comes along every couple of months, same answers- john adams, steve reich, philip glass, la monte young, morton feldman... - then someone brings up erik satie because rdj mentioned him once or twice.

Here's what happens when you google "minimalist piano music":

Coincidentally I was looking up that exact release about an hour ago after catching up with the Composing With Process podcasts - Unfortunately it's not released for another month: http://www.comatonse.com/releases/soulnessless/

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

I remember hearing about it ages ago. Surprised it isn't out. Good to see it finally seeing the light of day.

As long as we're talking about minimal artists, I'd like to mention Philip Glass - 'Music In Fifths', which I've really been getting into lately. I've figured out what the minimal process is, and I'm working on a way to extend it to an infinitely long piece (like 'Music In Contrary Motion').

Check out Glass' early stuff, from mid-60s to mid-70s. My all-time favourite music is amongst these works.

What exactly is your problem? Every time I see you post, you're being a massive cunt. Do you take up all your pent up aggression/snobbery on WATMM or what?

Also, so what if Aphex Twin was influenced by Satie? Loads of people have been, and afx is not the only way to have heard about him, as he is a famous composer. Being a hipster about any period of classical piano music is fucking ridiculous, if that's what you're doing there, and if you're trying to dispute Satie's talent, I don't even know what to say to you.

Meh. He said this about Music In Contrary Motion by Philip Glass:

There is absolutely nothing of value in this music. Mathematical patterns have been much more creatively used by superior composers like Per Norgard (whose infinity series might interest you). Simplicity isn't something to be sniffed at in modern music, but an A Minor scale moving through various simple patterns with an oscillating tonic/dominant bassline really says nothing of interest and highlights this particular composer's complete lack of harmonic, rhythmic and melodic sophistication.

In my opinion.

So, in other words, not a very valid opinion.

My favorite Glass is Music in 12 Parts, specially Parts 1 and 2... so awesome!

Also, Terry Riley is good.

Oh, I do love Music In Twelve Parts... I have those Parts on vinyl, and the whole thing on cassette. I just the style of that music, that special sense of time that makes you feel like there is no before or after, only a present.
