Jaffa
I;ve been really getting into their earlier works like 'force majuere' and 'exit' recently and wondered if anyone else here was into them? and if so, what works are worth getting into, they have written soo much material over soo many albums, i need some guidance;-) I am a massive fan of the soundtrack they did for the micheal mann movie 'the keep', that soundtrack is second to none. Any other reccomendations i would appreciate. Guest sljiva
Stay away from their '80s new-agey stuff. Phaedra is my personal favourite, but you can't go wrong with Zeit or Atem. Basically, their early work is awesome and highly influential. eh Speedy
Certainly i think Force Majeure is their best. Atem is so great if you're in for some dark ambient. Zeit gets a little samey w/ such long tracks that don't vary as much, but Atem is a really cool shorter more varying taste of that tone. Then of course Phaedra is a classic. When Schmoelling comes on board i really like Hyperborea and the track "White Eagle". Logos is also and excellent live record as opposed to Encore which really isn't. Soundtracks. Firestarter, Wavelength, Risky Business, all awesome, but Flashpoint is just generic shit. Also a later ambient soundtrack for like a nature film about the grand canyon called Canyon Dreams which is really quite great. Mindphaser
I`m only familiar with the majority of their 70`s stuff. My favourites are Atem, Phaedra, Rubycon[one of the best Electronic albums ever made] Stratosfear and Force Majeure. The Virgin Years 1974 - 78 is well worth getting http://www.amazon.co...tt_mus_ep_dpi_2 Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/73281-tangerine-dream/#findComment-1803669 Share on other sites

FLA FUR BIS FLE
one of my favorites of all time. the keep score is nearly perfect. there is only a bit of their later catalogue that i don't like, and edged too closely to new age/pure moods shit. Check out "Atem" if you have the opportunity. Under rated album, quite an odd vibe on that one. joshuatxuk
I like Phaedra a lot, but I really haven't delved into their discography too much beyond their most well known tracks. Speaking of soundtracks, a couple years ago I found out they did many of the instrumentals in Three O'clock High (very underrated 80s film imo) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gC7R8l1RheQ Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Hide joshuatxuk's signature Hide all signatures Tape Escape! Mindphaser
TD - The Virgin Years 1977-83[Encore, Force Majeure, Tangram, Exit, White Eagle, Logos, Hyperborea]http://www.amazon.co...tt_mus_ep_dpi_1 http://www.junodownl...983/1937964-02/ I already had Force Majeure, but I had to get this because it`s nice and cheap and I always wanted to have a good listen to their early 80`s stuff. Lol yeah, everybody who's into (real) electronic music should've heard about them/respect them in my opinion. Anyway, Phaedra is definitely my favourite track by TD. An excellent example how music can be timeless. Zeit is also mentioned on this page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dark_ambient, as "an important early precursor of the dark ambient". It indeed is, in my opinion. As far as I can remember I haven't heard anything by them which I don't like.
