100 Year Starship Initiative

The 100 Year Starship Initiative, sparked by initial funding from DARPA, and off and rolling on its own now, has just launched its website.

The goal is construction of the first starship 100 years from now. Or failing that to spur technological and scientific development, in order to make it at least feasible, 100 years from now.

Cool idea to spend 100 years with 1 thumb up the bum and the free hand pretending to be busy passing time while the necessary bits and pieces required to make starships naturally coalesce from the many avenues of technology and science. If the world would put its collective motivation to work though I bet them shits could be cranked out in about 20 years.
