hey guys, i've just started resuming work on this older project of mine called Klei. klei is dutch for playdough.

i did a custom C2C frontplate and designed a few PCB modules in EagleCAD. in the upper corner you have A/D and D/A converters that can do analog-to-MIDI as well as analog-to-OSC. beneath that, a set of oscillators that oscillate in certain dynamical systems wayz (modelled after some interesting chaos systems). bottom is a weird sequencer thing that was the reason that i've set the project aside (the seq was too weird).

i've tried to do as much modular as possible, sturdy 1/4" neutriks.

thick toggle switches, Russian-submarine style.

Can't see the pics here, will try again later. Please do share some sound samples, the oscillator thing seems very interesting.

Where did you learn to design synths? I've been unable to find good books about it, and DIY websites are usually more documental than educational.

go get electronic engineering books, and machinery. what do you want to make?

I know 386 assembler lol

gonna try and get a design for one of those MIDIBox Sequencers and build that I think.. would be so cool to have a racked sequencer.

just look at this: http://www.ucapps.de/index.html?page=midibox_seq.html

Analogue synths with my own personal twists, basically. Like say an MS-20, with a distortion circuit and an additional SEM-like filter. Or a polyphonic OSCar with 2 LFO's. I have a copy of Craig Anderton's Electronic Projects For Musicians but the book doesn't really cover how to build a synthesizer from scratch, it's more geared towards preamps and stompboxes, that sort of thing.

Pretty cool sounds, btw.

i'm not too much into synthesizer's, though i've built a couple. my fav ones are the one in the geiger counter and in the old other box. anyhow this is all shit and giggles, doing analog chaotic systems was a big thing of mine but ended up doing all the modelling in MATLAB--a good tool for designing osc's. this is a weird prototype that will spawn children :)
