Jazz: a complaint

I log on to Watmm for the first time in a universe of blue moons and what is the first thing I see?

A thread about jazz.

Everyone knows jazz music is just people having siezures into musical instruments stolen from old people. The last person to truly appreciate jazz nodded so much, he was asphyxiated by his moustache. Any right-thinking person knows that saxophones are only to be used as sexual stimulants, and are certainly not for blowing into without a person attached at the other end.

Pinned thread about Jazz on an Electronic Music forum is less justifiable than the previously pinned Skrillex thread in my opinion (Not that Skrillex is better than Coltrane, of course).

Jazz theory is the basis behind a lot of the electronic music we love, so I think it's definitely relevant....

Yea, I'll give you that. Though I'm sure the same can be said about many other genres as well (classical, rock, etc).

I've just created a jazz thread, haven't I? This is so shameful. Everyone look away. Look away now.

I dislike jazz but I recognise its place in electronic music history. I don't mind FlyLo, Squarepusher and Mr Snares using jazz as creative references, but still... I *respect* jazz in the same way I've got the greatest respect for my father's genitalia for bringing me into the world, but that doesn't mean I want to have it in my ears.

this semester i took a Seminar on Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn. I think the Ellington-Coltrane collab from the same year is much better, but I guess that's because Ellington sounds like a sideman on Money Jungle to me. Mingus does some crazy shit on jungle though
