Guest ruiagnelo
I recently got a copy of Ventolin EP (first part) and been enjoying the hell out of it. As an asthmatic, i find it a pretty brilliant track. How original, i know. But it really is. Most people might find the high frequency hum annoying and painful, but that's what i find the most exciting. It really expresses that feeling of suffocation and despair, that state of being constantly alert and unable to keep a regular breathing rhythm. I love it how Richard is able to express it through sound. The only other of his tracks that moves me in such a way is the end of Mt Saint Michel + Saint Michael's Mount which makes me feel i am going deaf. These are probably the only two tracks that make me feel afraid of something, really afraid. The other tracks on the EP could be better, and the highlight for me is The Coppice Mix. However, i think this EP should get some more love, especially the title track Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/73650-ventolin-ep/ Share on other sites

Guest
Ventolin is indeed a beast of track. I really love the Remix EP as well, but was attracted to the first one more when I reached the kinda psychedelic laughing section with Richards Mom or the strange "dutch" speaking creature speakings in the next track. Compared to On + On Remix Ventolin is a full slab of excellent tunes where I never had the feeling of a filler or anything else. The remixes by Cylob and Vibert are really great, nevertheless very own compositions. mcglockers
I really like Ventolin, but not in the context of ICBYD. The EP is great, and so are the remixes. Much like the ON double pack. I like the ON package as well, but Ventolin was more thrilling and diverse than the other slab of singles. The artwork on Ventolin is also great, creepy as hell. Guest spprw
This EP (Part 1) might be one of the strongest releases he has. I found a new copy of it in Brooklyn a few months ago, and (for shame) I hadn't heard most of it until then. Really melodic, and one of the most fun Aphex releases. Really great. And yes, it definitely needs more love. I was thinking I Care Because You Do Would make better EP, or would be better suited as a leaner album. Considering the incongruity of "Ventolin" (which had already been released), and the tracks on there that are supposedly from 1990. If you take those away, you have a far more cohesive work.
