Totally underappreciated band called Schema, which was all 3 members of Hovercraft with Mary Hansen from Stereolab. In fact I'm pretty certain that the Schema LP was the last thing she recorded before she died.

John Frusciante.....

 

Always meant to get round to listening to his stuff but always forget. Though I can't stomach the RHCP I hear his solo stuff is worth checking out.

he is pretty inconsistent. Some tracks are really great, some are weird and some are just bad. On the other hand there is A LOT of material he put out. I think I will create a "best of" CD one day and just listen to this.

To Record Only Water and the first Ataxia album are the best things I think.

Actually, Ataxia is a great example for this thread too - it's Frusciante, Joe Lally from Fugazi and another dude I'm not as familiar with. Here's one of my favorite cuts from their first record:
